Penn State Goes 10-1, but It's Not Convincing
Penn State are now 10-1, and from what I can surmise by the stats and what I watched on ESPN College Football GameCast and what they've been saying on ESPN, Penn State certainly didn't play well in their 34-7 win over the Indiana Hoosiers.
Having said that, I've got one thing to say: 10-1.
Now Penn State's National Championship hopes have been absolutely ruined (that was last week at Iowa, it case you missed it), it doesn't matter.
The fact is this: if Penn State beat Michigan State next week (ESPN's Andre Ware thinks that the Spartans will win in a sold out and extremely loud Beaver Stadium), Penn State goes to the Rose Bowl and the Ohio State Buckeyes can take their shared Big Ten title all the way to an At-large bowl.....or something on New Year.
But what Ware says about Michigan State is not a load of crap.
Penn State's 'Spread HD' offense has been desperate over the last couple of games. This week, PSU put up 442 yards of offense, including 257 of passing and 185 of rushing. But Darryl Clark wasn't great against a woeful Indiana secondary, throwing 20-36 for 239 yards and 2 touchdowns.
And Penn State's red zone offense again was poor, with Clark fumbling on the two yard line when he looked bound to score and a couple of good chances that went from TDs to field goals. Oh, and Kevin Kelly blew my "Penn State by 30" prediction by missing a three-pointer, too.
But the bottom line is this: Ohio State, who beat Illinois by 10 but frankly were much better than that, could win its next game against Michigan by 927, and it won't matter.
One win, and Penn State are going to the Rose Bowl, and Joe Paterno once again shuts up the doubters.
SOME MORE BCS POINTS: Texas ain't struggling at Kansas; the Longhorns are up 35-7 in Lawrence.
Georgia IS struggling with Auburn in the South's oldest football rivalry, leading 17-13 in a nailbiter. Have the Bulldogs lost it? Funny what a trouncing at home to Alabama can do to a season, eh?
OH BALLS! Ball State win again, virtually doubling up Miami of Ohio 31-16.
