UFC 134: Why Anderson Silva Will Dominate Yushin Okami
Mr. Silva is unquestionably the most dangerous man on the planet at the moment. The way he disposed of Vitor Belfort in his last fight, back at UFC 126, was simply barbaric and inhuman. His calm, cool and collected persona also gives him a presence in the Octagon that no other fighter has had since Royce Gracie.
It’s with this supreme confidence that Anderson Silva has been able to mutilate his last 14 opponents, giving him the longest win streak in UFC history.
The last fighter to beat him? Yushin Okami of course.
I say 'beat,' but he won because of an illegal kick thrown by Silva.
So without further ado then, let’s take a look at why Anderson Silva is going to destroy Yushin Okami this Saturday night.
Faster
1 of 5Anderson Silva is lightning fast. Yushin may be quick, but just take a look at Silva’s knockout resume and you will understand what I mean. Silva is like the Muhammad Ali of the MMA world in terms of speed.
But he also packs the power of a bullet train...a lethal combination.
Expect to see Silva stalking Okami on Saturday night, biding his time like a lioness would as she patiently stalks a buffalo. Then, just as the crowd get complacent, like the attack of a black widow spider, Silva will strike and Okami will fall.
More Powerful
2 of 5Moving neatly onto striking, Silva is in a league of his own here too. His power is unsurpassed, knocking out light heavyweights such as Forrest Griffin and James Irvin. Anderson is able to generate a monumental amount of power from punches which look rather tame.
Like the one when he was on his back-step against Griffin? And we all know Forrest can take a punch.
It’s not only his punches that pack devastating power. His kicks are deadly too. Vitor Belfort well and truly felt the wrath of Silva’s front kick at UFC 126.
If you need any more convincing, go and ask the graveyard of fighters Anderson has slayed.
There are some big names on those tombstones...
More Intelligent
3 of 5Silva is one of the more intelligent fighters of the UFC.
Where Georges St.Pierre INTELLIGENTLY fights to his opponents' weaknesses, Anderson fights to his opponents' strengths. But he does so in an intelligent way. He is very cunning in his movement, and is never wild with his punches, making him an elusive target and an economical striker.
When I say economical, by no means am I implying that he is shy. Silva will take openings that guarantee him landing a solid punch, but he will not risk anything that is 50/50.
He isn't a gambler in that sense.
Gamblers, in this game, get knocked out.
More Accurate
4 of 5Silva’s accuracy is beyond human. It’s unearthly how accurate his strikes are when comparing him to other top strikers. His ground and pound is destructive, but not wild and unbalanced. His stand-up is cautious but effective.
One punch or kick is rarely wasted by Anderson Silva. Okami will have his work well and truly cut out if he is to avoid getting caught more than once by The Spider.
It’s going to be a matter of when and not if, really.
Better Competition
5 of 5Finally, Silva has fought better competition and disposed of it quicker than Yushin Okami has.
Silva's game is far more well-rounded and even when he is up against supreme wrestlers like Chael Sonnen, he is able to capitalize on rare chances and take them extremely well. Other top fighters, such as Georges St.Pierre, lack the ability to know what move to 'slap on' in certain situations.
His displays against Sonnen, Griffin and Belfort are only three from a vast array of one of the UFC’s most illustrious careers. And the really scary thing? It’s not over yet.
