Redskins vs. Ravens: Injury Updates for Atogwe, Jenkins and Jones
The Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens don't necessarily come to mind when you think of two teams that would engage in a high-scoring barn burner, but that's exactly what they gave us in their preseason tilt on Thursday night, with the Ravens winning 34-31.
It was definitely a pretty good game if offense is your thing, but there is some injury news to talk about.
Aside from the various aches and pains that must have occurred during the game, the one injury of note happened to Redskins rookie defensive end Jarvis Jenkins. Early on in the first quarter, he hit the deck after making a bid for a sack. The trainers came out and immediately started tending to Jenkins' knee. Eventually, he was helped off the field and was taken to the locker room.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Initially, the word on Jenkins per the Washington Post's Mike Jones was that he had suffered a strained right knee. A short while later, that was corrected to a sprained right knee.
While that obviously doesn't sound all that bad, the diagnosis is by no means final. According to Redskins beat reporter Grant Paulsen, Skins head coach Mike Shanahan could offer no update on Jenkins after the game. He did, however, say that Jenkins will undergo an MRI on Friday.
On the bright side, the Redskins did get safety O.J. Atogwe back for this game. He's been out of action with a couple weeks with a hamstring injury, and notched two tackles against the Ravens. The only black mark on his return involved him getting schooled by Vonta Leach on Sidney Rice's second-quarter touchdown run.
In other injury news, Skins corner Reggie Jones was part of a nasty collision with Ravens rookie wide receiver Tandon Doss. He was down for a few short moments, but looked like he was OK. A bruised ego maybe, but nothing more serious than that.
On the whole, it was a pretty light game from an injury standpoint. At least when you compare it to Monday's tilt between the New York Giants and Chicago Bears, anyway.
As far as other things we learned, it's definitely worth noting that Washington's quarterback situation didn't get much clearer in this game. Both John Beck and Rex Grossman looked pretty good, which is par for the course for this particular preseason. They certainly didn't make Shanahan's decision any easier.
Meanwhile, it's probably time to start taking Washington's running game seriously. Tim Hightower and Roy Helu were impressive once again, combining to rush for an even 100 yards on 22 carries. Hightower's 37-yard touchdown run was particularly pretty.
Speaking of running games, Rice was also impressive. He got the bulk of the carries for the Ravens, piling up 72 yards on 13 carries.
This was also easily Joe Flacco's best game of the preseason. After an early pick-six by DeAngelo Hall, Flacco would settle in and finish the day with 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Rookie quarterback Tryod Taylor looked solid in relief, throwing for 125 yards and a touchdown.
By the time the game was over, both teams walked away with plenty of things to hang their hats on.
Though, that could all change for the Redskins after Jenkins has his MRI.
