California's Earthquake: Could Norv Turner Fall off The Shelf Next?

Raider Card AddictNov 15, 2008

Well, with all that has happened in California, what's wrong with a little speculation?

Up in the Bay Area, Oakland fired a disgruntled Kiffin, the 49ers told Nolan it's time to pack...what about Norv "Stomach" Turner?

Granted, Oakland and the 49ers are both in bad slumps. Even after the changing of coaches, from Kiffin to Cable, and from Nolan to Singletary...Norv hasn't been exactly blowing people away.

Norv's overall numbers aren't much to write about. Four seasons out of 11, he's finished at above .500. One of those seasons, was due to a tie. If he had lost, then he would have finished 8-8,  in 1997.

Last season there was a lot of people hopping on the bandwagon, thinking that the Chargers might finally get a Super Bowl ring...only to have injuries completely derail them against the Patriots.

And now, the Chargers are sitting at 4-5. Surprisingly, due to the weakened nature in the AFC West, they are still within striking range of the division lead.

What could be more frightening, is that Oakland is also two behind them, and could still knock them back to 3rd place.

San Diego is well-known for wanting to "win now", which was obvious after ditching Marty Schottenheimer. In Marty's five years at the helm, they had three years above 500, one 4-12, and an 8-8 season. Marty's weakness was winning in the postseason.

So, if the Chargers fail completely to make the post-season, will the Chargers make another change? The past history doesn't show the team making a lot of changes within two years...in the years of Riley, he managed three seasons, Gilbride managed one and a half, but Ross made 3three playoff berths plus a Super Bowl appearance.

Logic would dictate the Chargers will keep him on the team, give him at least another season.

But in this season, logic hasn't exactly been a sure thing.
