Ohio State Coach Fickell States Bauserman, Miller Will Most Likely Split Time
August 25, 2011
On Thursday, Ohio State head coach Luke Fickell made an unofficial announcement to the media.
The quarterback race has been narrowed down to veteran Joe Bauserman and true freshman Braxton Miller.
Fickell plans on using the two-quarterback system.
"Right now it's Joe and Braxton. They’ve been taking the majority of the reps. I think they’ve done a good job, and hopefully they’re helping each other out and know that we need everybody," Coach Fickell said at the press conference.
"I think it’s best for the team. You can go all the way back in '96 when I was here. We had a two-quarterback system and it worked…I think that’s what we may be after. "
In 1996, Ohio State used junior quarterbacks Stanley Jackson and sophomore Joe Germaine. Ohio State went to the 1997 Rose Bowl under head coach John Cooper.
"You’ve gotta give guys opportunities to see what they'll do in front of 106,000. I think that’s what we’re after. It’s a competition. As long as you accept it as a competition…to me, you’re going to need two guys at every position."
