Alberto Aquilani Confirmed to Leave Liverpool Again on Loan to AC Milan

Karl MatchettJun 1, 2018

Another one of Liverpool's on-off transfer sagas for the summer has seemingly drawn to a close with the news that the Premier League side have agreed a deal with AC Milan to take Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani on loan for the season, with a view to a permanent transfer at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

Having spent last season at Milan's rivals Juventus, Aquilani was expected to make the move a long-term one this summer but instead came back to Liverpool after the Turin side said they could not afford the agreed asking price.

Aquilani played a significant role in the Reds' pre-season campaign and looked like he could force his way back into the reckoning for a Premier League place, but was not named in the match-day squad for either of Liverpool's two games to date or even last night's League Cup tie against Exeter City.

With Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing joining Liverpool over the summer the club's midfield ranks were severely swelled and it now seems that Aquilani, despite popular support from a large part of the fan base, will be headed back to his home country to play for a season with the current Serie A Champions.

The Independent reports that the loan move will be made permanent if Aquilani plays at least 25 games for AC Milan, but does not disclose the amount of the proposed transfer.

Aquilani has another 3 seasons left on his Liverpool contract and is rumoured to rake in up to £80,000 per week.
