Falcons vs. Steelers: TV Schedule, Radio and Online Live Streaming Info

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles have undoubtedly risen this season, and the Green Bay Packers are still the defending champs, but there's still a chance the Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers could meet in the Super Bowl.

The Falcons, after a 13-3 campaign last year, have only gotten better, adding defensive end Ray Edwards to improve their pass rush and drafting a rookie wide receiver in Julio Jones who could excel opposite star Roddy White this season.

The Steelers have largely stayed in-house, re-signing top cornerback Ike Taylor and offensive tackles Willie Colon and Jonathan Scott. Then again, given the Steelers made it to the Super Bowl last season, they didn't necessarily have to do much more than that.

Falcons Key Addition: Ray Edwards: One of the key areas the Falcons needed to address coming into this season was the pass rush. They finished near the bottom of league with 31 sacks last season, and defensive end John Abraham had 13 of them. Edwards, a solid, consistent player for the Vikings last season, is a great complement to Abraham and is one of the reason the Falcons could be even better this season.

Steelers Key Addition: Ike Taylor: Coming into the offseason, I figured Taylor would be swallowed up by a team willing to pay more money for his services. But the talented corner stayed at home with the Steelers, and will help keep their secondary solid.

Falcons Biggest Loss: Harvey Dahl: Dahl was a solid guard for the Falcons in 2010 for a unit that allowed just 23 sacks on the season. The Falcons will still have a solid line without Dahl in 2011, but talent-wise, he's surely the biggest loss.

Steelers Biggest Loss: Flozell Adams: It's not like Adams was a big-time player for the Steelers in 2010. He's a downgrade from Colon and Scott. But now that Scott suffered a hyperextended right knee, it would have been nice to have some depth and a veteran who could step in right away.

What They're Saying: Falcons head coach Mike Smith has declared that Edwards will start his first game with his new team on Saturday. Edwards is coming off offseason knee surgery, but it looks like he'll be good to go against the Steelers.

"

“Right now, we are anticipating that Ray will be going this week. We’re going to get our first snaps with him. In terms of the number of snaps, we’ll wait and see if there are any set backs from today’s practice, but I doubt that. We look forward to seeing him out on the field.”

"

With every preseason game, the Steelers get further from an offseason that was way too tumultuous for a franchise that just went to the Super Bowl.

Running back Rashard Mendenhall angered a good deal of people when he tweeted about Osama bin Laden's death in what some believed was an uncivilized manner. Linebacker James Harrison lashed out at commissioner Roger Goodell, calling him a "crook" and "the devil." And receiver Hines Wards was arrested on a DUI charge.

Said safety Ryan Clark, via the Washington Post:

"

“Obviously we probably have got more negative attention than anything. Right now we just want to lay low and play football. I think we’ve done enough talking and been in the media enough.”

"

What's Worth Watching: Atlanta Falcons defensive end Ray Edwards will be playing his first game with the Falcons. His impact could have a tremendous impact on their title chances this season. How he responds from offseason knee surgery will be key.

In addition, rookie wideout Julio Jones is certainly one worth watching. He's already impressed a lot of people, including Tony Gonzalez and Roddy White. He appears to be a special talent.

On the Steelers' side of things, receiver Antonio Brown has made great strides in training camp and could be an important piece this season as Ward continues to age and slow down. The second-year pro leads the Steelers through two preseason games with five catches for 93 yards and beat Eagles Pro Bowl corner Asante Samuel on a 29-yard touchdown last week.

Biggest Storyline: Ray Edwards is undoubtedly the story headed into this game. He was the second-best defensive end in free agency this year behind Charles Johnson, and he fits an immediate need for the Falcons. When the Falcons signed him, they immediately gave themselves a chance for a Super Bowl. His impact, combined with the development of the Falcons' young secondary, will be key for the Falcons in 2011.
