Allsports thinks Leafs were Solid in Win over Oilers

Walt WebbNov 14, 2008

The Toronto Maple Leafs put in a solid workman like effort against the Edmonton Oilers last night at the Rexall Place. Jason Blake, previously in the dog house, played one of the best games he has played in a Leafs uniform. He used his speed and skill to his advantage, and was a pest in the Oilers' face all night. I had a look around the web this morning and found this sports news story on the game courtesy of TSN.

I was talking to a gent' named Dave at the bar last night while watching the game, and one of the things Dave said to me kind of hit home as far as the success of the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise goes, even though they had not won the Stanley Cup since 1967.

Dave said, " I am not really a hockey fan, but I am a Toronto Maple Leafs fan”. That in a nutshell is why no matter where the Leafs are playing around the league you will hear the odd “Go Leafs Go” voiced by some of the crowd. Maybe Atlanta might be the exception but then again you don’t hear “Go Thrashers Go ” there much either.

The Leafs played a more complete game in Edmonton than they did in Calgary Tuesday, and that was why they got the convincing 5-2 win.

Next up for the Leafs is a date with the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Look for Kyle Wellwood to have a good game against his former team. He has been a good addition for Vancouver and I still feel that the Leafs gave up on him to soon, as I have written previously.
