WWE Rumor: Cruiserweight Division Returning to WWE Soon?

Justin WatryMay 31, 2018

Let me put a few qualifiers up here before I begin:

1. This is just a rumor. Simply that—a rumor.

2. I am going to be bashing TNA's X-Divison in this column.

If anybody is not willing to read through those points, then I suggest exiting this page now.

No? Okay, then let's begin...

According to a report, WWE is looking to sign a few smaller talents that would fit the bill of "cruiserweights;" it would not mean a definite division, just more of a unique under card.

Before anyone asks, this is yet another "Triple H idea" I have been talking about the past month or so. Changes are coming, whether people want them or not.

Back to the rumor; my thoughts?

I would be fine with it, but I am not sure a full-fledged division is what I want to see. For instance, creating a title might be fun, but I would not be for it right off the bat.

Prime example—TNA (ugh...).

Their X-Divison started out with so much promise, but as all things in DixieLand, they wear thin. Nowadays, every time I see Aries or "Generic Wrestler #45" walk down the ramp, I turn the channel.

I just don't care. Thanks the heavens they changed it to a "weight limit" because that is the only good thing about that division in 2011.

Back to WWE. If they do this—go ahead.

It will give some great talents a job, and it will fill a role on the show, but if anybody is expecting TNA X-Divison matches like 2004-2006, then forget it.

That is unlikely.

Keep it to actual wrestling and not so many flips and flops. It looks like you are watching a gymnast or a trapeze artist inside the ring.

Actually sell moves. Have a personality. Be a face or a heel. Be in real feuds.

You know? Simple things like that.
