WWE SmackDown August 22, 2011 Spoilers: Guest GM, Returns and More!
Tonight marked the taping for this Friday's WWE SmackDown. Judging from the spoilers it was a show to remember!
With Mark Henry securing his position as number one contender for Randy Orton's WWE World Heavyweight Championship last week by winning a 20-man battle royal, what is "The World's Strongest Man" up to in preparation for their upcoming title match?
After this, there will be SPOILERS! If you want to avoid being spoiled, now's the time to stop reading.
A WWE legend filled the role of SmackDown general manager and took credit for next week's live SmackDown arrangement.
A former WWE World Heavyweight Champion made his return and much, much more took place during the tapings!
Check out the following slides for all the spoilers!
Bret Hart Makes Waves as SmackDown General Manager, Christian Returns
1 of 6To open the show, Bret Hart made his way to the ring as the guest SmackDown general manager. He immediately plugs the live SmackDown set for next Tuesday and takes credit for it, saying it was his decision. Sure thing, Brett.
Hart announced that next week Randy Orton will face Mark Henry. But former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Christian, made his way out to give him and the WWE universe a piece of his mind.
Christian cast blame on Edge for his loss at SummerSlam, saying he couldn't concentrate. He then said he wanted his rematch next week on the live SmackDown.
After trading insults, Christian gave Hart a court order that stated Christian was to get his rematch before anyone else got a title shot. Those are some good lawyers Christian has working for him. Christian vs. Orton will be a cage match.
Mark Henry then came out to disagree with the decision.
Henry wants the winner of the cage match, which is an odd talking point because he's already slated as the No. 1 contender. Henry gets on to Hart, but Sheamus comes out and chases Henry off after telling a story of how his uncle castrated a black bull.
Christian Defeats Daniel Bryan in a High Quality Match
2 of 6In the first match of the show, Christian defeated money in the bank winner, Daniel Bryan. By all accounts, this was a great match.
Christian won after hitting the killswitch.
Many fans question the booking of Daniel Bryan but many are overlooking how impressive Bryan has been in each match. He's hardly playing jobber to the stars. Bryan has gone from being the underdog at money in the bank to being competitive against the likes of Alberto Del Rio and Christian.
After the match Wade Barrett came out to face a local wrestler. Barrett says that he was responsible for the attacks on John Cena, that he shook the WWE to it's core and there is no chance he's going to face the local. He called it an embarrassment and left.
Afterwards, it was announced that Alberto Del Rio will face off against Sin Cara next week on the live SmackDown.
The "Real" Sin Cara Is Back, Let the Botchfest Begin!!!
3 of 6I've refrained from ridiculing Sin Cara for botching up until this point. He's new, nervous, and trying to adjust to the WWE style of wrestling.
After tonight though, I don't think I can.
Sin Cara defeated Heath Slater in a match that, despite being fun, had many botches. Sin Cara won by rolling Slater up. The finish was so bad the first time they re-shot it on the spot.
That's not the worst part. Later in the show, Sin Cara and Heath Slater came out to do the match over completely! The good news? It was way better the second time.
We won't get to see how bad Sin Cara looked tonight. But what's going to happen next week when he faces Alberto Del Rio on live television?
Randy Orton Beats Ted DiBiase, Cody Rhodes Splits
4 of 6All good things must come to an end. This also applies to the not-so-good things, like the relationship between Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase.
Cody Rhodes began by saying he is resurrecting the WWE Intercontinental Championship. The paper bags are handed out in typical Rhodes fashion.
DiBiase had a good match with Orton and the two worked well together in the ring. Orton won after hitting the RKO. The punishment was only beginning for DiBiase. Rhodes, obviously displeased, hit the CrossRhodes on DiBiase, and put a bag on his head afterwards.
This should mark the end of their relationship.
Kelly Kelly Keeps Winning, Ezekiel Jacks Tortures the Great Khali
5 of 6Kelly Kelly defeated Tamina with her new finisher she's been sporting the past few matches. The WWE appears to really be building her as a legitimate force as Divas champion.
After the match, Jinder Mahal was coaching (if you can call it that) The Great Khali, telling him that he needs to defeat Ezekiel Jackson in the next match.
Jackson impressed in his match with Khali, breaking free of Khali's vice grip and putting him in the Torture Rack. That'll be a sight to see.
Afterwards, Randy Orton cuts a promo asking how many times he'll have to face Christian.
Sheamus Takes on Mark Henry in the Main Event
6 of 6Sheamus gave Mark Henry a taste of his own medicine during their main event bout.
After a slow paced match, Sheamus threw Henry into the announce table, then won by countout. The fight wasn't over though.
Henry got his hands on Sheamus after the match, and hit the World's Strongest Slam on Sheamus into the steel ring steps to end the show.
Sheamus' continued feud with Henry may mean he could be inserted into the title picture come Night of Champions next month. Only time will tell if that is the case.
