NFL Trade Speculation: 5 Most Likely Scenarios for Tim Tebow

Jordan SmithJun 3, 2018

Tim Tebow was Josh McDaniel's guy, and he still might be. With Brady Quinn officially moving up to number two on the depth chart, Tebow's prospects in Denver are in a world of trouble.

The 25th overall pick in 2010, Tebow was never expected to be a first rounder. Many didn't think he'd ever get the chance to start as a quarterback in the NFL, and that notion might still be correct.

It's being reported that Bronco's officials think Tebow might be the fourth best quarterback in camp.

If the Bronco's don't end up trading Tebow, there's already rumors being generated of the Bronco's releasing Tebow; especially considering his hefty contract. These five teams are the most logical destinations for Tebow should his dreams in Denver be crushed.

5: Seattle Seahawks

If you've watched any of the preseason, then you might have as little faith in Tavaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst as I do.

The original plan was to bring in Jackson and Leinart, until Leinart decided to re-up with the Texans. It's a keep swinging til you hit strategy, and worse methods have been tried.

The Seahawks are searching for an answer at quarterback, and unless they have a plan to draft a first round quarterback next year then there's a good possibility they could pursue a guy like Tebow.

He would enter a good situation, with a solid young running back, and two good pass catchers in Sidney Rice and Zach Miller. The Seahawks have been building for the future the entire last couple years, if they can find the right quarterback to tie it all together then they can start firing on all cylinders and keep the Rams on their toes in the NFC West.

The Seahawks panning for gold could pan out quite well. If they bring in enough talented quarterbacks whos teams are giving up on them, they could strike gold.

4: Philadelphia Eagles

It's not a question of why, it's a question of why not.

Andy Reid is without a doubt the NFL's quarterback master. He's made guys like A.J. Feeley look good enough in the systems he employs to flip them for draft picks the next year. He sold a declining Donovan McNabb to a division rival for second and fourth rounder.

If anyone could make Tebow look good, and make a perfect system for him it's Reid.

Reid seems to be trending towards quarterbacks with good running and scrambling abilities, as well as with cannon arms lately. Mike Vick, Vince Young, and Tebow are similar players. All of them have had their abilities questioned at the NFL level.

Vince Young signed a one year contract, and while he is a viable NFL quarterback, he might not make it past that one year contract. Mike Kafka is the third stringer behind him.

Vick isn't exactly the most stable long term quarterback. He's already in his thirties, and the punishment he continually allows himself to take could end his career at any moment. Vince Young has flaws as a passer, and many more as a teammate. Tebow could be the perfect project for this team.

3: Remains in Denver

Even though the things that are coming out of camp about Tebow are rather unspectacular, there is a camp that seems to think Tebow will eventually be their starter.

Many just view him as a project, one that could build upon a solid foundation and become a successful quarterback. No one thinks Tebow is going to be the next John Elway, but he could be something.

It makes sense for the Broncos to hold on to Tebow; if not only for the fact he was the 25th overall choice in the 2010 draft. With all the bad the Broncos seem to have coming out about him, it might not make sense to trade him. They might just not get the right value back.

On the other hand, if they don't think he can do anything for the orginization, it's better for the fans, for the Broncos, and for Tebow to just let him go. They could probably get a third rounder out of him, and that would mitigate at least some of the damage from the Josh McDaniel's era.

We'll know soon enough. It's clear Tebow performs better during game time, and when the Bronco's inevitably fall out of contention, we'll soon see Tebow in more action.

2: Buffalo Bills

Ryan Fitzpatrick was quite serviceable at quarterback last year, but everyone is aware he is not the long term answer for the Bills franchise.

The Bills have slowly and quietly been building a dangerous offense. They are loaded at skill positions with Stevie Johnson, Roscoe Parrish, Naaman Roosevelt, Fred Jackson, and C.J. Spiller. They also have do it all Brad Smith, who is hard to quantify at one position since he excels at doing all of them.

Their offensive line is shaky, as is their talent at tight end, but the franchise could take off with good play at quarterback once again.

It's also pretty well known that Tebow is a ticket selling machine. The Bills have been a downtrodden franchise for a long time, and rumors abound of them moving the team farther North, or maybe even to L.A. Tebow's the kind of guy you want to make your franchise recognizable again.

Not to mention he offers a unique offensive dynamic. Chan Gailey is a master of taking mediocre talent and playing to its strengths—visa vi Tyler Thigpen in Kansas City. Tebow could be very successful under Gailey, who's doing a solid job of turning the franchise around.

1: Miami Dolphins

5 of 5

The Dolphins could be one of the most likely landing spots for Tim Tebow.

Miami and Denver were already trying to talk a trade up for Kyle Oorton. Miami was willing to give a fourth rounder while the Bronco's wanted a third, and the talks fell through.

Chad Henne is the big question mark for the Dolphins. If he shows positive strides this year then we could easily see him starting, or at least sticking around. However, if he struggles, there's not much to work with after that. Matt Moore is listed as the immediate back up to Henne, and no one wants Matt Moore to start for their football team. Kevin O'Connell and Pat Devlin are also long shots, at bets, for an eventual starting gig.

Tebow would make sense. The Dolphins have been running the wildcat for years now, and Tebow offers something like that—a quarterback that can run and throw the ball, and has all the intangibles to boot. Tebow might not be inspiring much confidence right now, and he is a project, but so is everyone else on the Dolphin's roster.

The Dolphins aren't exactly the best pick for the number one overall pick in the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes either. Their defense should be rather good, if not elite this year, and that doesn't lead to number one overall picks. Unless of course they bench Henne by week three and start Matt Moore for the remainder of the season.

Let's be honest, Tebow in Florida just makes sense, and he would look good in a Dolphins uniform.
