Terrelle Pryor Thought He'd Be a Member of the Miami Dolphins

Thomas GaliciaJun 7, 2018

In an interview with the website Pro Football Talk, new Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor stated that he thought he'd join the Miami Dolphins.

“I thought Miami or maybe the Redskins I talked to Miami a bunch of times. That’s where I thought I was going to end up going, but I’m happy where I’m at right now. I couldn’t be happier, and I definitely appreciate the opportunity to play for the Oakland Raiders.”

Pryor was of course scouted by the Dolphins during his pro day last Saturday, along with many other NFL teams—including the Raiders, who wound up choosing Pryor and forfeiting a third-round pick in next year's draft.

However, Pryor also said that he hadn't heard from the Raiders prior to the draft.

Pryor is of course suspended for the first five games of this upcoming NFL season. While the former Ohio State quarterback would like to continue to play that position, the Raiders could possibly move him to wide receiver or tight end in order to take advantage of his 6'5", 235-pound frame as well as his 4.38-second 40-yard dash speed.

From Miami's perspective, it's a double-edged sword. Pryor is a great athlete who would've added some different twists to the offense if under Daboll's system he'd been used the way Kordell Stewart was used during his rookie year in Pittsburgh, while at the same time Miami could've still developed him as a potential quarterback.

I doubt he would've provided competition with Henne due to the fact that there's only two weeks left in the preseason as well as his five-game suspension, but he would've been a great development project in the long term.

Maybe this season the Dolphins won't regret not drafting Pryor, but they might a few seasons down the road.
