WWE News: Revival of Cruiserweight Division Would Breathe New Life into WWE
CM Punk’s verbal rampage over the last several months cut the WWE hierarchy to the bone, and serious changes are coming, especially to what was the WWE cruiserweight division.
There have been rumors circulating that the WWE brass has taken serious steps towards bringing more cruiserweight talent into the federation with a possibility of bringing back another division.
The moniker of cruiserweight division may be negative to the WWE, but a simple title name change would solve any issues. With the success of TNA’s X-Division, the WWE is starting to look at that style as a new wave in the business that they need to conquer.

Rajah.com is reporting talk inside the WWE of an improved cruiserweight division:
"WWE officials have had discussions as of late regarding acquiring cruiserweight talent. A full-fledged revival of the cruiserweight division, however, has not been confirmed. The belief is that cruiserweight talent would give Evan Bourne or Sin Cara more similarly styled opponents to work with, not to mention that the quality of wrestling would strengthen the organization's undercard.
"
With the talk of improving the tag division and now the recent improvements in the Women’s division, the idea that the WWE will do something with their cruiserweight division is a legitimate one.
The first key would be losing the name “cruiserweight division.”
For the WWE, a new start with old ties would be the perfect solution, and the light-heavyweight championship title would be the perfect belt to bring back.
Even before it was officially sanctioned by the WWE, the light heavyweight belt was making its way across Japan and Mexico, making it the forefather of a high-flying division.
The title was held by men like Ultimo Dragon and Jushin "Thunder" Liger before WWE ever recognized the belt officially, and the WWE didn’t realize the power they were wielding.
Once in the WWE, the belt boasted champions like Christian, Dean Malenko, Jeff Hardy, X-Pac and Jerry Lynn before the belt was unified with the cruiserweight title.
What all of the men who carried one of the two lighter-weight divisions is that they are all high flying, and just like the X-Division in TNA, the WWE can take advantage of this.
The company has a plethora of guys who could pull it off in that division, and it would be a way to keep the art of wrestling pure, at least for one match a night, with Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston, Justin Gabriel, Sin Cara and so many more wrestlers that could pull off 5-star matches every night.
This decision could also open the doors for big names from Japan, Mexico and the Indy circuit as well as stars from TNA to jump ship and become the stars on the biggest of stages.
With guys like Mark Henry boring up the mid card, I’d rather watch 1,000 high-flying matches than one poorly wrestled brawn fest.
WWE needs a new division, and it’s their time to bring back the high flying!
