Samir Nasri Deal with Manchester City Is Agreed

Karl MatchettJun 6, 2018

Another one of the Premier League's summer-long transfer sagas could be within hours of a conclusion, as Arsenal and Manchester City have finally agreed terms on a deal which will see French play-maker Samir Nasri become the latest big-money recruit for the Citizens.

An accord worth a reported £25 million has at last been struck between between the teams for a player who has just one year left on his contract.

Nasri could have left the club for free next summer, but Arsenal have decided to cash in now instead and look to sign a replacement in the final week of the transfer window.

Nasri was not involved in Arsenal's first-leg Champions League qualifier against Udinese last week but played against Liverpool in the Gunners' Premier League defeat this weekend.

Had manager Arsene Wenger chosen to field him in the second leg of the Udinese tie, which is played this week, Nasri would have been ineligible to take to the field for any other team in the competition this season, making him a distinctly less attractive proposition to Roberto Mancini.

As it is, Nasri has now been left out of the squad for the second leg. If he completes his move to City, he will compete with the likes of James Milner, David Silva, Adam Johnson and—unless he in turn moves on to pastures new—Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Arsenal, for their part, are rumoured to already be looking at new recruits to take Nasri's place, with Lille's Belgian starlet Eden Hazard high on their wanted list.
