Da'Rel Scott Video: Watch Stunning 97-Yard Touchdown Run in Giants' Monster Win

Wes ODonnellJun 1, 2018

There is a good chance you have no idea who Da'Rel Scott is.

That is okay, because there was a good chance he wasn't going to make the New York Giants' 53-man roster anyway.

Last night that changed. He certainly didn't earn a roster spot with his fourth quarter touchdown run, but he did earn himself another look.

Following undrafted rookie Mark Herzlich's interception inside the five yard line, the Giants took over with undrafted rookie Ryan Perrilloux at quarterback, second-year player Charles Scott at fullback and seventh-round pick Da'Rel Scott at running back.

The game was already out of hand with the Giants leading 34-6 with 3:02 left to play.

Fourteen seconds and 97 yards later the Giants were up 40-6.

The play design appeared to go off-tackle left, but rookie tackle James Brewer (No. 73) was driven nearly two yards into the backfield and Scott ran up his back, stumbled, and nearly wound up with a safety.

He regained his balance though, cut back inside and was gone without another player touching him for the remaining 95 yards.

It must be noted that fifth-year pro Ike Ndukwe (No. 68) made a killer block inside to spring Scott after the cut back, and with 4.34 speed nobody on the Bears defense stood a chance at catching the former Maryland Terrapin.

It was a fitting end to a game that saw the Giants simply dominate the Bears for nearly every minute of play.

The carry was only the second of Scott's young career, and he now averages a whopping 49.5 yards per carry for his preseason career.

But on a serious note, the play was a brilliant example of the talent the youngster possesses. He is in a battle with another former Giants draft pick, Andre Brown, for earning a roster spot behind Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jacobs and D.J. Ware.

There are no guarantees for either running back though, and this play could easily be the biggest highlight of his rookie season.

If he doesn't catch on with the Giants, his speed will certainly attract attention on the open market. Rather than just saying he runs a 4.34 40, he can now show teams he can do it in pads too.
