WWE: Kevin Nash's Character Needs to Be Explained for an Effective Storyline

Tom Urtz Jr.Jun 7, 2018

When Diesel returned at the Royal Rumble, I knew who he was and probably anyone reading this article knew who he was.

However, many of the younger fans and new viewers were clueless to who exactly Diesel was. Fast forwarding a few months to SummerSlam, when Kevin Nash returned to "stick" CM Punk, he was referred to as Kevin Nash.

This could possibly be WWE's attempt to relate to  the young TNA fan band wagon as during his last stint, Nash went by his own name. I realize that Nash went by his own name in WWE as well but younger fans may remember him from his time in TNA and not WWE.

For those who don't know, Kevin Nash started off in WCW back in 1990. He remained with the company for three years before returning in 1996. During that 1993-1996 period, Kevin Nash was in the WWF as Diesel and Big Daddy Cool. He was the bodyguard of real life best friend Shawn Michaels.

Nash would return to WCW for the infamous NWO angle and the rest is history. After a brief return to WWE, Nash remained with TNA from 2004-2010.

Nonetheless, if Kevin Nash's character isn't properly explained, WWE Creative will try and bring a quick end to the feud.

This problem was brutally exposed during the promo battle between CM Punk and Kevin Nash. Nash was talking about things of the past that most fans would pick up on. He made references to WCW, how things in the past used to be done and many other subtle references.

It is unfortunate that creative attempts to pander to the kids these days because they believe it is their majority audience. If they were to poll today, I feel that it would be closer to 50/50 today than it was when WWE first went PG.

Jim Ross attempted to subtly explain Kevin Nash during Raw at the announce table. He was talking about how long he has known Kevin and how he hasn't been like this before. He name dropped their wrestling round table discussions on WWE Classics in an attempt to lead the fans to a source to answer their questions.

WWE has a few ways to go with this angle. The first thing they can do is show past clips of Kevin Nash to help introduce the character. Another thing they could do is have him explain who he is through his promos.

He could also play off the time that he did spend in WWE. Some fans may not realize or remember the NWO of WCW but they may remember the reincarnation of the NWO back in 2003/04.

The other thing fans want to see is an answer to who sent Nash that text message. There are still some options to consider.

1) Triple H could have sent it.

We all know the history of the Kliq in WWE. Triple H and Kevin Nash are the only remaining members active in the WWE.

To relate to pop culture terms, Nash is like Triple H's consigliere. Triple H is like Don Corleone in The Godfather. He can't be seen getting his hands dirty so he has someone else take care of his business for him.

What better man than the towering giant Kevin Nash? Nash provides muscle, hasn't been on the scene in quite sometime and has had his share in nefarious dealings.

This smelled like a Kliq job to me, but only time will tell.

2) Stephanie sent the text message.

Triple H may be the COO of WWE, but Stephanie McMahon is still the Billion Dollar Princess. She has a lot of pull in WWE as a high ranking executive and has "McMahon" on her stationary.

Her husband Triple H is adjusting to corporate life and may have tried to stay on the straight and narrow.

Stephanie, however, felt that she needed to have Punk pay for embarrassing her father and the company her grandfather built when Punk left Money In The Bank as WWE Champion.

This is all speculation, but can you think of another reason Stephanie was on camera recently?

A third possibility, and one that has gained buzz throughout the IWC, is...

3) Sean Waltman A.K.A. X-Pac sent the text message.

With rumors pointing at a Team Punk vs. Team Triple H at Survivor Series, X-Pac could be easily interjected into the feud. When I first saw CM Punk debut in ECW, for some strange reason, X-Pac came to mind. I don't know why but it just did. X-Pac would fit in with the Kliq storyline theory but only time will tell.

With all of that in mind, I love seeing Nash on television, but I think Creative can do a more effective job explaining him and utilizing his character on television.

4) Other

Simple put, if you think someone else is behind this, leave a comment in the section below.

I am very excited for Raw tonight and I would love to know what you are thinking right now.

Wrestling is for the fans, and we have a voice. We want wrestling, and I feel this is a great way to air out some ideas.
