WWE Night of Champions 2011: 7 Matches We'd Love to See
Hello folks!
We’ve had two immense pay-per-views in a row from the wrestling giant that is the WWE, but will we have a third?
I believe with the right booking and the right outcomes, there is no reason why we can’t. Feuds are going strong, the fans are more engaged with the action, and we are being subjected to an edgier product.
Personalities are finally being revealed, and we are moving away from the generic look that had plagued the WWE for a couple of years.
So, without further ado, here are seven matches we’d love to see at WWE Night of Champions 2011.
Sit back, relax and enjoy the read!
David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty vs. The Usos (Tag Team Championships)
1 of 7The Tag-Team Championships used to be a prestigious title in the WWE—now, they are so non-existent, I had to look up who the current champions were because it slipped my mind.
With WWE looking to revive the tag-team division, I can’t think of a better way to start than by having this match on the start of the card.
Not only would it get the crowd pumped for the matches ahead, but it would also expose the wonders of the tag-team wrestling world to a lot of people. Giving this sort of exposure can only help the division begin to thrive again.
The Uso’s would bring back some prestige to the championships if they were to win the titles from David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty. They could hold the titles for months, and it would serve as a safe hold for the titles until WWE can introduce new tag teams to the roster.
Once there are a large number of tag teams, then a team will be able to take the titles from The Usos, and the tag team division will have enough teams to survive.
Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix vs. Natalya (Divas Championship)
2 of 7Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix, and Natalya are the three best Divas in WWE right now.
Why not put them in a triple threat match?
What would make this more exciting is the fact that Beth Phoenix and Natalya are now known as the Divas of Doom and are supposedly on the same side.
This match could be used as the start to a longer feud between the three girls, and the Divas of Doom could finally break up at the Royal Rumble.
I want Beth Phoenix in more matches.
I want Beth Phoenix to win the Divas title...then we could see her all the time.
Winner.
Though I sound like a petulant child, I stand by my point.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Alex Riley (United States Championship)
3 of 7This looks like it is on the cards anyway. With it being Night of Champions, this match would have to be for the US title.
This not only furthers Riley’s experience on the big stage, but also gives Dolph Ziggler someone else to feud with other than Kofi Kingston.
Vickie Guerrero would have to be involved in some way because Alex Riley has been pushing Dolph to get rid of her.
I have to believe that putting this match lower on the card feels right, as people don’t seem as invested in the feud. The United States Championship does not hold a lot of prestige at the moment, and it would most probably be your run of the mill mid-card match.
However, if Riley could show some pizzazz and explode on Ziggler like he did with Miz, then it would definitely excite the audience for the subsequent matches on the card.
I think the outcome of this match should have Alex Riley winning the United States championship from Ziggler, and Ziggler firing Vickie Guerrero because of it.
Not only does this allow him to compete on his own, building himself up to be a viable threat again, but it would also allow Alex Riley a bit more spotlight as he climbs the WWE ladder. It would provoke Vicky into managing Swagger, rebuilding him from the low-card status he has somehow found himself in.
Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara
4 of 7I have to admit that if this was on the card, I would be more excited for this than the WWE title match.
Let me explain what I mean first of all.
For the past couple of weeks, a wrestler best known as Incognito has portrayed Sin Cara while the original (Mistico) serves his suspension under the rules of the WWE Talent Wellness policy.
The trouble is, many think that Incognito is a lot better at portraying the Mexican sensation than Mistico is.
Perfect opportunity for a feud then don’t you think?
Who wouldn’t want to see two Sin Caras flying around the ring, huracanrana-ing each other into next week?
That’d be worth a pay per-view buy right there—but only if the build up worked.
What I would do is have Sin Cara come down to save someone, and have the original Sin Cara come back to face off with the fake in the ring.
The commentators could establish that the “fat” Sin Cara is, in fact, an imposter and that he was trying to steal the glory of the Mexican sensation.
This would be all they need to do to set up a feud between the two.
This could then lead to this match at Night of Champions, with them possibly fighting for the Sin Cara name/gimmick.
However, I’d have Incognito win and have Mistico debut as someone else because as I have already established, Incognito is better than Sin Cara.
They could always tag together as well—I think that would be more than cool, especially if they dressed in the same attire.
The only problem is they may end up like the Bella twins, performing “Sin Cara magic” every night to win matches. But I digress...
Daniel Bryan vs. Cody Rhodes (Intercontinental Championship)
5 of 7Daniel Bryan has lost three matches in a row. He is the Money in the Bank winner and could do with looking strong.
If he wins the Intercontinental Championship and is holding the Money in the Bank briefcase at the same time, it makes him look like a much bigger threat to whomever he faces at WrestleMania XXVIII.
For those worried about what direction Cody Rhodes will take, I say this; for a while now, Cody has played on his fantasy disfigurement, and to be honest, it has become a little stale and boring.
He has just started teaming with Ted DiBiase once again. Why not use this already tried and tested team to help rebuild the tag division?
They don’t have to be a permanent fixture for the rest of their careers, but they could more than hold the fort with the Usos until WWE can sign some respectable tag team talents.
This Intercontinental match would be hard hitting and provide a great spectacle, preparing the crowd for the two main events that will follow.
Mark Henry vs. Sheamus vs. Randy Orton (World Heavyweight Championship)
6 of 7Mark Henry won a Battle Royal on Friday, making him the No.1 contender for the WWE Championship.
However, rather than a singles match at Night of Champions, I would much rather see Sheamus get involved—not to mention he deserves it.
As much as Mark Henry is being built up as this big bulldozer again, I just don’t see him as World Champion.
I’m not sure how good a match between him and Orton would be, and I think adding Sheamus to the mix would help it immensely.
I also think that Sheamus should come out on top, earning his first World Heavyweight Championship. The problem with this is that we have to remember that Randy Orton is the face of SmackDown, making it extremely unlikely he will be losing the belt.
I still think a triple threat match would be a lot better for the pay-per-view, regardless of the outcome.
Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena vs. Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk (WWE Championship)
7 of 7The final match we’d love to see—the main event of Night of Champions 2011.
For me, this would have to be a Fatal 4-Way contest.
All four men have been champion within the space of a month, and although there has already been an Undisputed WWE Championship match, I feel this would be a definitive answer as to who should rightfully be champion.
I can see the crowd really getting into this match, because of the previous feud between Punk and Cena, and the Mexican clash of Del Rio and Mysterio—it would create a flowing match style, despite there being four men in the ring at one time.
I’ll go out on a limb here and say that I’d like Del Rio to retain the title.
He hasn’t had it that long and to take it off him so soon would just destroy any credibility he has gained over the past month whilst holding the belt.
I think this match would create the perfect end to Night of Champions, and give a chance for a lot of top talent to shine once again.
As an alternative, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, or Kevin Nash could get involved in some way shape or form to further the angle with CM Punk. They would have to be careful, so as not to take away from the wrestling performed in the main event.
WWE has a tendency to overbook things, and another heavy ending like the one at SummerSlam would probably not be well received.
