Alabama: Quit Underestimating Them While You Still Can

Larry BurtonNov 13, 2008

"Florida is beating people by 40 points a game."  "Texas Tech's beaten better people."  "Texas and Oklahoma are better than Alabama."  "Who has Alabama really beaten anyway?"  "The question is not if, but when Alabama loses".  Yeah Alabama's heard them all.

There's a reason the Tide is No.1 and may just stay that way.  They win.  They may not win pretty, they may stock up "Style Points" in all their wins, but they do win.  They don't have a loss to explain.

If Florida is so big and bad they would not have lost to an unranked Ole Miss team. But they did.  If Texas is so great they would have a defense, and they wouldn't have a loss for "experts" to try and explain. The same goes for Oklahoma.

The only team that has any meat to their argument is Texas Tech, and questions are raised there when your opponent scores 30 points or more against you twice.

The main reason you should reserve judgement on who REALLY is the No.1 team is because they are ALABAMA.  They've been there, done that, and been counted out, only to come back and win it all time after time.  This is a school that plays its best in an underdog role.  This is a Tide that rises highest when it is counted out.

There is not one star, but a group of men that pick one another up and carry the load of a struggling member, just like the picture shows. Unlike a precise machine, this team can keep running if a gear or two strips and has proven so many a time.

Not one expert picked Bama to win it's first game against Clemson.  Even after dismantling them, few gave them a chance against the Dogs in Georgia.  They were of course wrong, very wrong.  Alabama smacked both of them in the mouth in ugly routes.

Yeah, well they haven't played against 'old So and So' yet.  Let's see how they handle him!  Oh yeah?  Well ask Georgia's Moreno how they did against him?  Ask Matthew Stafford, one of the nation's best QB's how they befuddled him?

Every person in the press and opposing fans have presented teams as the latest "Tide Killer" but they were simply an afterthought in the statistics in the next day's paper.

The press just doesn't like Alabama.  They have proven them wrong too many times and sportswriters and analysts can't wait to say, "I told you so."

Maybe it's because the Tide just isn't flashy enough.  An eight yard run doesn't make the highlight reels.  Alabama's defense stopping another team for three and out gets no highlights.  There's just no "WOW" factor with most of Alabama's wins.

The team simply shows up like the teams namesake, the Tide.  Wave after wave crashes into you and each time it hits the water gets a bit higher.  No one wave gets you, but effect is cumulative.   Sooner or later you succumb.

So go ahead and inflate your egos.  Blow your trumpets and point a mocking finger at Alabama and say they don't have a chance.  You're playing right in their hands...
