Bellator 48 Results: Top Five Bellator Fighters Who Could Make It in the UFC

Tim McTiernanJun 7, 2018

Last night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., Bellator put on an outstanding card.

Bellator 48 featured Seth "The Kimbo Killer" Petruzelli going up against the former UFC heavyweight champion, Ricco Rodriguez.

In the co-main event, there was a non-title superfight featuring the heavyweight champion, Cole Konrad, against the always-dangerous Paul Buentello.

The main event of the evening had Marlon Sandro face off against Pat Curran in the Bellator Summer Series finale in the featherweight division.

Curran landed a massive head kick in the second round, and Sandro was out cold.

Could Curran make it in the UFC? He has potential, but probably not yet, but here are five fighters who could make some serious waves in the UFC.

Joe Warren

1 of 6

Joe Warren (7-1) is the current Bellator featherweight champion, and soon to be participant in the Bellator season 5 bantamweight tournament.

Warren won the title when he defeated Joe Soto by TKO in the second round at Bellator 27.

Since that time, he had a non-title fight, which he won by unanimous decision, and he was then entered into the bantamweight tournament.

He is set to fight against Alexis Vila at bantamweight, and he will now have to defend his title against Pat Curran at some point in the future.

Eddie Alvarez

2 of 6

Eddie Alvarez (22-2) is the current Bellator lightweight champion, and has been for more than two years.

Alvarez submitted his way to the Bellator season 1 tournament finals, and then in the final he submitted Toby Imada to win the title.

After that, he won four more, and defended his title once against Pat Curran.

Alvarez' only career losses have come to Shinya Aoki and Nick Thompson. He has nothing to be ashamed of in losing to them, and many MMA websites have Alvarez ranked in the top 5 lightweights in the world.

Ben Askren

3 of 6

Ben Askren (8-0) is the current Bellator welterweight champion, and is undefeated in his professional MMA career.

Askren has recently been making waves by calling out and mocking several UFC guys and Nate Marquardt, and he is certainly not looking to make any friends, just a name.

Askren has some of the best wrestling in MMA, as he was a 2008 Olympian, and he has used that wrestling base to win five fights in Bellator, including the three to win the tournament, and one defense of his title.

Askren returns to the cage to take on Jay Hieron at a date which is to be determined.

Hector Lombard

4 of 6

Hector Lombard (29-2-1 [1 NC]) is the current Bellator middleweight champion and is one of the fighters that many fans want most to see in the UFC.

Lombard is a ferocious striker, and has world-class judo, so he is certainly a handful for anyone to take on.

In his career, he has only lost to Gegard Mousasi and Akihiro Gono, but he has not lost in five years.

He is on a 23-fight unbeaten streak (22 wins, 1 draw) and is one of the best fighters not in the UFC today.

He fights again on Sept. 3 for the Australian Fighting Championships.

Cole Konrad

5 of 6

On Saturday night, Cole Konrad (8-0) fought to a unanimous decision victory over Paul Buentello, and while it was not the most exciting fight, Konrad was never in any real danger.

He said in his post-fight interview that he wanted to show off some boxing, which he was able to.

A fight against Roy Nelson would definitely pique my interest.

Any other Bellator fighters you think could compete? Let me know.
