WWE SmackDown Recap: 10 Biggest Moments from Last Night

Daniel MasseyJun 7, 2018

Hello folks!

Well, it has been another explosive week in the world of WWE, and SmackDown was no exception. Having to compete against Raw was no easy task, but they definitely pulled it off, presenting an excellent post-SummerSlam show.

A lot happened in last night’s show, and I have made a slideshow of the 10 biggest moments!

So, as per usual, sit back, relax and enjoy the read!

Cody Rhodes 'Skinning the Cat'

1 of 11

I love it when people "skin the cat."

There’s nothing better than watching that display of agility, especially when it isn’t expected. The one person that was most known for it was probably Shawn Michaels.

When I saw Cody Rhodes do it last night, I went nuts with excitement.

I don’t know why...it’s probably unhealthy that that is one of the things I love about wrestling.

AJ Shows Some Skills

2 of 11

AJ was impressive last night in her match with partner Kelly Kelly.

She showed off her new attire and some down-right exciting moves in the ring.

Something tells me she’ll be one to watch...for her wrestling skills I mean.

Cody Rhodes Gives New Meaning to the Word "Slaphead"

3 of 11

Cody did something I never expected last night and gave Ezekiel Jackson an almighty slap to his oh so bald head.

If you didn’t see it, I suggest you search for it on YouTube—it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen and definitely deserves a place on this top 10 list.

If that doesn’t infuriate Ezekiel, nothing will.

Cody Beats Ezekiel Jackson for the Second Week in a Row

4 of 11

The huge slap I mentioned was merely the beginning of the end for Ezekiel last night, in the impromptu Intercontinental title match.

Cody managed to pick up the win for the second week in a row, winning cleanly, and therefore, legitimising him as a viable Intercontinental champion.

Sexual Innuendo

5 of 11

This is yet another point for my case regarding the demise of the PG era.

The section featuring Aksana and Teddy “Bear” Long, featured some very suggestive imagery which would not have been seen this time last year.

I’m not trying to spark a big argument, but the product is definitely becoming more edgy.

It’s refreshing but only because of the PG product we have been so used to—every expletive and innuendo now generally shocks me, because I don’t expect it.

Used sparingly, it is very effective.

The Reaction to Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd

6 of 11

The crowd was into this mid-card match, and it is good to see Tyson Kidd getting a decent amount TV time.

The two put on an excellent performance and was definitely the match of the night for me—even beating Bryan vs Del Rio which was also a strong showing.

Another reason I put this on the list was because it was just a match between two mid-carders for our entertainment, which had become quite a rarity on WWE’s main programming.

Daniel Bryan’s Submission Loses All Respectability

7 of 11

Del Rio became the first person to counter out of Bryan’s new limpet submission manoeuvre last night.

The problem was, he did it too quickly, and it made the submission move look a lot less effective than it should have done, in favour of Del Rio’s arm breaker.

He may want to stop using that move for a while and go back to the LeBell Lock until people forget about this reversal.

Plus, the LeBell Lock looks way more aggressive than his limpet move.

“This My Boy D. Bryan Right Here!” (Booker T)

8 of 11

Daniel Bryan pushed Alberto Del Rio to his limits last night; there is no doubt about that. He is swiftly becoming popular with the fans, and gone is his nerdy gimmick.

He is becoming the American Dragon he once was, and this stellar performance, despite losing, has proved he can be a champion when the time is right.

I can’t believe Del Rio won two weeks in a row to be honest—it seems a bit silly to have Bryan lose to him when he needs to look strong as well. However, I believe he made himself look strong despite the outcome last night.

No-one ever doubted his ability, but his flair—now this is shining through in his matches, he is finally the complete package needed to main event WrestleMania.

Providing he doesn’t lose the case of course...

Sin Cara Was Better Than Sin Cara

9 of 11

For the second week in a row, Sin Cara was portrayed by Jorge Arias, better known as Incognito.

Despite being just a developmental talent for WWE, he has really impressed me and many others with his impressive displays of Sin Cara’s moves. There is something about him that makes him better than Mistico.

He seems to present the Sin Cara character with a bit more flair, and up until now, has not botched a single move in his matches.

After these two stellar performances, I would think twice before putting Mistico back in the Sin Cara mask.

He should debut as someone new and feud with himself—oh no, I’ve gone cross-eyed...

Mark Henry Revealed as the New No.1 Contender

10 of 11

Mark Henry showed a relentless attitude in last night’s Battle Royal to determine a new No.1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.

He destroyed everyone who was eliminated at one point, stalking the outside of the ring, ready to pounce on the unsuspecting, defenceless athletes.

He ended up winning the match by making short work of the new and improved Sin Cara and squared off with Orton, remarking that he smelt fear on the current champion.
