WWE & TNA: Pro Wrestling's Casting of "The Hangover"

Tom ClarkJun 7, 2018

"Listen, we f****d up."

With that line, the era of the outrageous buddy comedy began anew, as The Hangover became an instant hit with moviegoers.

Four friends, all headed to Las Vegas for a bachelor party, wake up to a trashed hotel room, a missing groom, a tiger in the bathroom and a baby in the closet.  And neither of the three can remember one detail from the previous night.

Insane comedy ensues.

Not too long ago, I cast WWE's version of The Avengers, and after recently watching The Hangover once again, I thought, why not?

Four guys on the road trying to find answers get mixed up with dangerous thugs, steal a police car and get beat up, all while trying to get out alive. Sounds like a pro wrestling storyline to me.

Time to have a little fun here, people.  Let's all take a break from the pro wrestling drama.

So, with that, here we go.

Scott Steiner as Mike Tyson

1 of 5

Let's see.  Big, bruising, full of macho testosterone and foul mouthed. He's a bad actor who solves his problems with immature overly aggressive violence, and in a lot of ways, he's nothing but a big bullying neanderthal.  Plus, he's dumb as a rock.

And, Tyson is pretty rough, too.

This is what we call a perfect example of central casting.  The truth is, Scotty probably makes a better Mike Tyson than Mike Tyson.

So, what happens if Scotty reads this?  Shouldn't I be afraid that maybe he won't take very kindly to me ripping on him?  Hey, it's all in good fun; it's nothing personal.

Besides, Scotty can't read anyway.

Evan Bourne as Doug

2 of 5

Three words.  Separated at birth.

Doug is the groom, and the one friend who seems to have it all.  A loving family, a great girl waiting to walk down the aisle to him and two longtime friends who have always been there for him.

Doug is the typical all-around good guy who is decent, and loyal, and is very happy in his life.  He is doing what men of this sort do; he is growing up and getting married.

Evan Bourne not only looks like Doug, he has a lot of the same personality traits.  He's great as a baby face because when fans look at him, they see a good person who's working hard to make his way.  Evan is perfect in the role of Doug.

There's also the fact that Doug is not seen in the majority of the movie, much like Evan is not seen in the majority of high profile matches on RAW.

They're more similar than you can imagine.

Eric Young as Alan

3 of 5

Alan is a true eccentric, an oddball of a man who's basically a child at heart, and in mind.  He has a weird disposition, making it impossible for anyone around him to understand where he's coming from.  He's unpredictable, weird and should probably not be walking around without wearing a crash helmet.

Seriously, is there anyone else who could play this character besides Eric Young?

I was so impressed when TNA chose to abandon Eric's wacky persona and bring him to reality.  He was well spoken and straight to the point, a good heel who was talented in the ring.  I for one thought that he was flourishing in his new role.

Then, someone decided that goofy humor needed to make a comeback, and before you know it, Eric is back to doing the same shtick he had done for years.

Eric is supposedly in Hollywood, searching for the role that will catapult him to stardom.  Unfortunately, that role has already been taken.

Eric, you just missed it buddy.

Dolph Ziggler as Stu

4 of 5

Yeah, OK, so Dolph is a blond again.  I get it.

But think about it.  Stu is a mild-mannered character who seems pretty likable. He's a fairly successful professional and seems pretty happy with his life.

He also has a psycho crazy obsessive girlfriend who controls his every move.  He has tolerated her constant berating and has attempted to contain his frustration with her.

But by the end of the movie, he has had enough, and finally dumps her.

If Dolph were a baby face, he would be great as Stu.  Plus, as Nicky in The Spirit Squad, he showed that he has a sense of humor.  I think he could pull off the role of Stu quite nicely.

Besides, you can't deny that Vickie Guerrero comparison—it's dead on.  Gotta get some points for that one.

John Morrison as Phil

5 of 5

Phil is the one friend who you love to hang out with, but if you're not careful, he will get you in trouble.

He's good looking, quick on his feet and brutally honest with his words.  When life throws him a curve ball, he takes it with a smile and says "So, what?"

John Morrison, with his devil may care attitude and easy going lifestyle, is the perfect choice for Phil.  Both men are in great shape and can get any woman in the room, yet they're more about having fun and just living in the moment.

John is fun and outgoing.  He knows how to party, but is loyal to his friends around him.  He is the only man to portray Phil.

The Hangover was a comedy smash that spawned a sequel and promises a third one in the future.  Maybe that will require another casting call altogether.
