Finally, Everton fans have football!!

It's been a long, typically rainy British summer on Merseyside and the start of the new football season cannot come round soon enough.

With Everton's lack of transfer activity and media presence over summer, fans will have something to talk about as QPR visit Goodison Park this Saturday.

Everton's financial and ownership woes have had the press talking over the past couple of days but an emphatic David Moyes press conference has helped to quell the gathering storm.

QPR are the flip-side of the ownership coin.

They've been bought this week by Malaysian tycoon Tony Fernandes and the club appear to be in buoyant mood even though they were soundly drubbed by Bolton last weekend.

It is always difficult for newly promoted teams to acclimatise to Premier League football and Evertonians will hope that QPR need a little longer to find their feet.

To say that Everton need a win, before they have kicked a ball this season seems odd, but with the deflated mood around Goodison a win would help fans to see the true value of their team.

A team that finished 7th last year and could have risen higher if they had decided to play for a full season rather than just the second half.

With Mikel Arteta set to make a welcome return from injury, Everton fans have reason for optimism that this season will be much like their last even if manager Moyes has tried to manage expectations for this campaign.

Seamus Coleman and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov are Everton's only absentees and youngster Ross Barkley will hope to make his Premier League bow following a pre-season of hype.

Taarabt set the Championship alight last term with an host of phenomenal displays and a bevy of goals, let's hope Everton can keep him quiet and stifle the QPR attack.

The man that controls Everton's midfield has been very quiet in recent seasons.

A long spell on the sidelines may have contributed to this but Evertonians everywhere will hope that their favourite little Spaniard can recapture the form that made him the pride of the Toffees.

While everton have horrible early season form in recent years, the blue half of Merseyside need a win and QPR will need time to adjust to Premier League competition.
