Creature Vs. Creature: Matt Hardy V. Jeff Hardy
If there's one match that any of the most discrete wrestling fans would have a "mark" moment, it would have to be the elusive Matt vs. Jeff Hardy matchup.
Since that day in 1998 when they walked through the curtain, we all were hooked. It wasn't just 14 year old girls; it was everyone.
We knew there was something special. And when they beat Edge and Christian in the ladder match for Terri and the money, it was only confirmation.

Fresh Backstage WWE Rumors 👊

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Multiple TLC matches, seven tag title reigns, numerous broken hearts and four years later the team split. The WWE wanted to see what the duo could do on their own.
More importantly, they wanted to see Jeff Hardy fly.
Now the two have already faced off on multiple occasions, but never on a big stage. Both have one multiple singles titles, with Jeff winning one more than Matt and with Matt winning the only heavyweight title. Both have been ranked No. 17 on the PWI 500. Jeff in 2001 and Matt in 2003. And both have a cult-like following from kids from four to 94. This is how they've matched up in the squared circle so far.
Matt vs. Jeff: Smackdown 2000
Still a team, The Hardys faced off in a Hardcore match. Matt at the time was the Hardcore Champ. This was a dim light for fans as it wasn't truly a one on one as Tazz, Saturn, Bob Holly and Crash all got involved. It ended with Crash pinning Matt.
Matt vs. Jeff and Lita: Raw 2001
Another tease. This one through in Lita and watered it down. This time Matt gets the win...by pinning Lita. It doesn't count either.
Matt vs. Jeff: Lita Special Guest Referee Vengeance 2001
The back in forth in this one was actually good. There's no outside interference and Lita didn't get in the way. A swanton and a one-two-three later, Jeff Hardy stands with his hand raised.
Matt vs Jeff: Smackdown 2008
This should have been another classic, yet it was ruined with a run in by La-Familia. It ended in a no contest and left everyone feeling horrible.
Which leads us to Wrestlemania. The only stage big enough to give this match up the attention that it deserves. It will be one on one with no interference. This is how it goes down:
Jeff Hardy Will Win If...
Let's start this off right, by giving credit where credit is due. Everyone knows Matt Hardy is the one with the drive. He might even be called the "brain" of the two. But, that's where it all ends for him, and becomes brighter than ever for the "charismatic" younger brother. Anyone who disagrees that Jeff has the most raw talent of the two would be a fool, and that's only half of why he would win.
WWE noticed that there was one Hardy that shined over the other and the duo had to split. Jeff was so good that they didn't even want the two on the same brand, in fear that Matt try and pull him down by the coat-tail. While Jeff became Intercontinental champ and was being made by 'Taker, Matt was winning the European title (cough which no longer exists cough) and feuding the Hurricane.
All the Tools
Fast forward and we see that Jeff has all the tools. Charisma, speed, agility and the look. Add that in with much more creative and effective move list and Matt will be trying to tap out from an innovative clothes line.
Big Game Experience Edge
In Jeff's match up with Matt he would totally overwhelm Matt. Jeff has much more big game experience. He's battled 'Taker, Triple H, Randy Orton. Who has Matt battled? Mark Henry and Fit Fenley, cough. The pressure alone would cause Matt to crack.
Fan Support
We all know both have a massive following, but let's be serious more people are rooting for Jeff. Although Matt is the first to hold heavyweight gold, more people are talking about when is Jeff going to win the big one than Matt's forgettable title reign.
How it Goes Down
This one will go down as one of the best matches ever.
The back and forth would be amazing as no one knows another wrestler better than his own brother. And of course, all rules will be thrown out as a table, ladder and chair would definitely make a special appearance. This leads us to Jeff's finally advantage.
He has no fear. Jeff will do whatever it takes to win. Even if he had to take a swanton off the moon. No second thoughts, no way Matt could win. Matt is so obsessed with being great he'd crack. Jeff's no care attitude would be used to his advantage. And one-two-three Jeff wins.
Jeff Hardy Will Lose If....
Jeff Hardy will lose if...he doesn't show up. Okay, maybe that's a little harsh but I truly think that's the only way he'd lose. To be realistic, his greatest advantages are his greatest weaknesses. He's a risk-taker, which means even if he does hit those dives off of 20 foot ladder, he's going to take damage also. This leaves the door wide open for the more conservative Hardy. On top of that, Matt is a gamer.
He plans the matches out from bell to bell. He knows what Jeff's going to do and how he can be stopped. Add in the will to be great, and this could be a hard fought victory for the big bro. He will not want to be shown up by his baby brother. And just like he's the first to win the big one, he just might be the last one standing in this one.
The X-Factor:
The major X-Factor in this is who can the big machine get behind. In other words, who can make the company the most money with a win. Jeff is unstable. He's failed the wellness policy twice and one more time and he's gone.
But then again, there's something about Jeff you just can't ignore. The fans want to see him win, other wrestlers push for him to succeed and the company could make huge bank and ratings with him leading the WWE's flagship show and feuding with the top heels.
Prediction:
There's no doubt that at the end of this match, Jeff will have his hand raised. We already saw it before (Vengeance 2001) and he's now as popular as ever. Vince knows he can make money if only Jeff would get his head straight.
I truly believe that although Jeff is not materialistic, he would not want to miss another big opportunity like he did with last year's Wrestlemania. Jeff would make the most of it this time. So it's twist of fate, swanton bomb, one-two-three and history is made.
Thank you Jeff Hardy.
