WWE Divas: Beth Phoenix and Some of the Baddest Amazons in Pro Wrestling

A Glamazon is a larger, powerful woman who causes chaos in and out of the ring. But in the interest of this slideshow, I am going to manipulate the scope a bit.

An amazon wrestler is one who is larger than most, and causes destruction on her path. Or we can determine a woman wrestler (or Knockout, if you prefer) whose look was just as intimating as they were in the ring.

Or, in the interest of the "Glamazon," they are a different breed that makes them stand out in the crowd of professional wrestling.

Remember, women wrestlers are perceived differently in the promotions we see today as opposed to how they were trained in promotions of the past.

Either way, professional wrestling has had some interesting women come through its promotions over the years.

Sherri Martel

She may have been the original "Scary" diva.

Exotic and strange, but she sure could wrestle. Martel was popular in the AWA and WWF. She did a stint in WCW where she was a manager.

She got her main fame from time spent with Shawn Michaels.

She was an original.

Beth Phoenix

The "Glamazon" herself!

Big, strong and powerful. She lost the WWE title match to Kelly Kelly last week, but in reality, that is just a start to a new angle with Phoenix and Natalya running through the Divas of the WWE.

It will be interesting if they find someone as equally strong and fit to withstand the punishment this woman can dish out.

Alundra Blaze

She was a mainstay in the wrestling promotions in both the AWA and WWF before coming over to WCW.

Her body was ripped and her technique was unique.

And her looks did not hurt her at all.

ODB

To me, there is something about her that is appealing.

She is rude, crude and socially unacceptable. But she is hot as well.

And when ODB gets pissed off, women in the Knockouts Division had better look out.

She is trying to win her job back at TNA, but really, do you think she is going to play by the rules forever?

Woman

She was a pawn for Kevin Sullivan back in the day and later a manager of both Doom and Ric Flair.

In real life, she was married to Chris Benoit.

Nancy Benoit had a dominant look to her with those eyes and the way she dressed.

Hair spray companies should have asked her to do commercials.

A true 1990s gal.

Sable

She was one of the first true divas in the WWE.

Tall, statuesque and GORGEOUS.

She wasn't much of a wrestler, but when she was in the ring, she did turn heads.

Natalya

You have to figure her daddy, Jim Neidhart, taught her a thing or two about wrestling, or how to beat the hell out of female competitors.

As a face, she was loved. As a heel, she will be respected. And with her allegiance to Beth Phoenix, the two can help reform the WWE women's division.

Maybe they can teach these girls a thing or two about how to wrestle.

The Beautiful People

Smoking hot babes that can wrestle.

A take off of "Mean Girls," and they all know how to get their opponents pissed off.

There was a split in the group, so now, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne are singles wrestlers on their own (Angelina and Winter have formed an alliance).

But even as single competitors, they are mighty hard to deal with.

Winter

I guess we cannot have one without the other.

Winter is a character all to her own.

A sadistic woman with a force of power over Angelina Love, and her voice and her dark side make her the idea heel.

She is the current TNA Knockout Champion.

Melina

She started out as a manager, and her relationship with current WWE star John Morrison has been the talk of backstage fodder in WWE and the IWC.

She is currently not affiliated with any organization, but the look of this woman screams amazon.

Melina's dark features and long mane of dark hair draws you in and allows you to notice her other devilish assets.

And the best thing about this amazon is that she is equally appealing as both a face and heel.

Asya

Her time in WCW was short-lived.

When the management was trying to decide what to do with Ric Flair and his contract, they played out an angle where "The Nature Boy" was in an insane asylum. He was given a bodybuilding female as part of his "stable."

Asya is one bad chick. She is muscular and looks like she could knock your head off.

The angle was funny and sad at the same time, but it exposed us to another woman who had some major stones in professional wrestling.

Awesome Kong

I will use this moniker with her since she spent so little time in WWE.

Awesome Kong may be the most intimidating women ever in  wrestling. Her size, strength and the overall look struck fear in all of the Knockouts in TNA, and she was starting to do damage in WWE before she had to stop wrestling because she got pregnant.

If she comes back to WWE as Karma, look for her to pick up right where she left off. Only problem with that is, the fans may cheer where as she was booed before.

Daffney

How someone so odd looking can be so sexy is beyond me.

Daffney, who's real name is Shannon Claire Spruill, has been wrestling for 12 years now and has developed quite a following as a cult hero of sorts.

She debuted in TNA Wrestling in December 2008 as The Governor, a spin on former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Known for her tats, dark makeup and unique in-ring style, she is an amazon of another kind.

Nicole Bass

I have to be honest, when I first saw her, it took me a while to realize she really was a woman.

Bass is a Chyna-wannabe. But she also looks like she could break her counterpart in half.

Her run as Sable's bodyguard at Wrestlemania XV started run in the WWE.

It is rumored she still wrestles on the independent circuit.

Jaguar Yokoto

A wrestler, trainer and promoter.

She has been a headliner in All-Japan Women's Wrestling.

Right now, she is a free lance wrestler in Japan and has appeared in different organizations.

Tara

Thank heaven for this beauty.

Tara, the former Victoria in WWE. She is tall, she is bad and she is one of the toughest women in wrestling.

Right now, the Amazon is the TNA Knockouts tag team champion with Miss Tessmacher.

Tara is one of the larger women in the business and someone who causes damage wherever she appears.

Karen Jarrett

She is just plain MEAN!

She was married to Kurt Angle and stuck her nose in TNA business. Then she caused headlines with her relationship with Jeff Jarrett and again has been involved in TNA storylines and appears regularly on the little screen.

She appeared in the ring against Chyna and has warred with Velvet Sky. Her brunette locks and her wide smile make her an evil and sinister woman, and if that does not get you, then her scream and screech will.

Missy Hyatt

Maybe the original blond amazon in the NWA.

Short, compact and beautiful. She was all over the business in the 1980s with Eddie Gilbert.

Hyatt used her looks and her power to wield change and cause problems for opponents.

Hyatt was also a part of ECW and other wrestling promotions after Gilbert passed away.

Gorgeous George

She came to WCW as Randy Savage's girlfriend.

Thank you very much, Macho Man.

Tall, blond and downright outstanding. George was a better sight than the popular former world champion.

She also worked in ECW.

All I can say is, "Wow."

Chyna

She may be the baddest woman ever to get in the ring.

She was a two-time Intercontinental Champion and was a better in-ring performer than most male wrestlers.

Chyna's mean exterior and her association with DX was a perfect fit for her and the WWF.

Rhaka Khan

You just have to love this look.

Mysterious and hot. Khan worked in TNA in 2008 and 2009. She worked an angle with Awesome Kong as a tag partner as well.

Her in-ring persona caused havoc for male wrestlers, and wrestled in mixed-tag matches with ODB, Rhyno, Steiner and Williams.

She now works in Lucha Libre USA.

Luna Vachon

She is one of the oddest women to ever get in the ring.

Vachon was a Canadian-born wrestler who appeared in the WWE and then in ECW. Her outrageous look and her wicked paint made her a feared woman in wrestling ranks.

Her matches with Medusa in WCW for the world title were considered classics. She was never able to capture WCW gold.

Traci Brooks

How can you not love this picture?

The original TNA Knockout still can show that she has what it takes to get the job done.

She can wrestle, is a bad-ass and knows how to manipulate the system like she tried to do last week in Impact.

While she is a fan favorite, Brooks, who is married to Kazarian, can kick the crap out of you if you are not careful.
