NFL Week 11: My Three Wishes

Richard O'HaganNov 12, 2008

1. More of That and Less of the Other, Joey Porter

Anyone who witnessed Porter's performance last weekend was assured of the man's talent and ability to change a game single-handedly. Anyone who has read or heard anything about him the rest of this season will know that he also has a big mouth and isn't afraid to use it.

Too often this season the headlines have been about Joey talking, rather than Joey playing. Last weekend, the player finally showed up. I hope he's around for the rest of the season, too.

2. Welcome back, Matt Hasselbeck

Every Seahawks fan will be delighted to hear that their franchise QB will be back under center this weekend. The Seahawks without Hasselbeck are like a car without a driver.

It is strange that everyone thought that the Patriots were the one-man team. The last few weeks, as the 'Hawks have bumbled around the field like drunken toddlers, guided (or rather misguided) by Seneca Wallace and Charlie Frye, we have learned who that title really belonged to.

Everyone wants Mike Holmgren to bow out after a decent season and it will take something remarkable for that to happen now, but at least having Hasselbeck back gives them a fighting chance.

3. Do That Again, Drew Brees

I don't think I am the only one who feels that Jeremy Shockey had it coming. It doesn't matter how much you grow your hair, how many tattoos you get, and how much you cry "injury." When you are with a new team and living on the reputation you gained almost three seasons ago, you don't start mouthing off at your own quarterback.

You especially don't mouth off to someone as famously no-nonsense as Brees. It's about time someone told Shockey to start playing for the team rather than himself, and boy, did he get told.

There's no doubt that, if Shockey plays the way we know he can, the Saints will be a much-improved team. Here's hoping that Brees keeps reminding him that he's not the only man on this offense, for as long as it takes for that to sink in.
