The English Premier League: Who is the Most Hated Team?

Callum D'SouzaNov 12, 2008

Manchester United are statistically known to have the biggest fan base in the league, closely followed by Liverpool and Chelsea. But who is the most hated team in the English Premier League? It is the team who plays the most appalling football, or the team that is too aggressive?

Arsenal

I wouldn't say they are the most hated, but they are quite disliked. Tottenham fans loathe everything to do with Arsenal and vice-versa. West Ham fans also hate the red and white. Manchester United are not big fans either nor are Chelsea or Liverpool.

Be that as it may, Arsenal always play good and exciting football. Plus, they have had the likes of David O'leary, Patrick Vieria, Charlie George, David Seaman, Frank Mclintock, Alan Smith, Theirry Henry, David Seaman, Cliff Bastin, Ian Wright, Cesc Fabregas, and many more stunning players on their team. However, many football fanatics hate the aggression and arrogance of players like Robin van Persie, William Gallas, Jens Lehman, and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Even with a few dislikes, they are not the most hated team in the league.

Chelsea

Many of the Chelsea fans would say that they're only hated because the football world is jealous of their money and skill—and it could be true. Some people argue that the club bought their success from the investment of Roman Abramovich, which led them to become one of the most dominant teams in Europe.

Arsenal would have a clear dislike of Chelsea as they are fierce rivals for trophies. They also have John Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard. Are they the most hated team?

Manchester United

People say that there are only three teams in England with a swear word in their name: ARSEnal , S****horpe and F****ng Manchester United. Many people also hate Sir Alex Ferguson, Man Utd's current coach. He is the nicest of fellows and is always on the referees back, but he is no doubt a great coach.

United fans are not the most loved people either—many find them extremely arrogant. But if I was the best team in Europe, I would be too. Christiano Ronaldo has his enemies as does Wayne Rooney, who is immensely hated by Everton. Their rivalries with Arsenal and Chelsea have also earned them a few enemies.

They have a huge fan base, but do they have even more fan-hate?

Liverpool

Many hate Liverpool because of their arrogance and conceitedness concerning their historical dominance of England and their European successes. Who else hates Liverpool?

Everton fans would love nothing more than to see Liverpool suffer in any form. Liverpool's arrogance can be an annoying subject—many think their Champions League win was a fluke, which it may have been.

People also hate Liverpool because they feel they qualify themselves as a top English team, when they have not won a Championship for the last 18 years. Others suggest that they are a four man team; with  Reina, Carragher, Gerrard, and Torres, who are all fantastic players and bring such skill to any side.

Arthur Askey, a famous comedian from Liverpool, once said only two good things ever came from Liverpool: The Beatles and the motorway. True?
They are probably close to the most hated team.
Manchester City
Personally, Man City and Hull are my least favourite teams in the EPL. People are hailing Man City as the new Chelsea, saying that they are just investing in football.
A rich Asian/Russian investment, which means they can buy the world's best players and become one of the most dominant teams. I can't see it happening with Manchester City, but they do have the likes of Robinhno, Vincent Kompany, Jo, and a few more all thanks to heavy investment.
Another reason why they might be the most hated team in the EPL is because they are Manchester United's neighbour—which means a heck of a lot of Manchester United fans hate them too.
Tottenham
Arsenal fans hate Tottenham, which is quite a lot of people, and West Ham hates them as well. Liverpool also have there reasons to hate Tottenham. There are many chants that show just how popular Tottenham are:
Have you ever seen the Tottenham win the league?
Have you ever seen the Tottenham win the league?

Stand up if you hate Tottenham!
What do you think of sh*t Tottenham? Away in a manger, No crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus looked up and he said; We hate Tottenham.
Most come from Arsenal fans, but as you can see—they are definitely not the most popular team. However, I can't see them as the most hated.
Everton
Dead enemies with Liverpool and disliked by most other clubs. Liverpool fans have created many websites devoted to their hate of Everton, and statistics show that Liverpool have a much bigger fan base; which means that Everton is hated around the world.
Are they the most hated team?
Blackburn, Aston Villa, Boro, Bolton, and Portsmouth all have their lovers and enemies, but are any of them really incredibly hated?
Who do you think is the most hated team in the English Premier League?
