Fantasy Football: Sleepers to Put Your Team over the Top and Busts to Avoid

Ben GordonJun 7, 2018

Everyone knows players like Philip Rivers, Tom Brady and Adrian Peterson who are going to be studs this year.  But who could have predicted Michael Vick and Arian Foster would've scored more points than Tom Brady and Adrian Peterson?

That's not to say that anyone on this list will lead all fantasy players in scoring, but one never knows.  Some of these players are just vastly underrated and some are coming straight out of nowhere.  Now, without further ado, let's begin the slideshow.

Sam Bradford: Sleeper

1 of 4

Sam Bradford, last year, posted some pretty insane numbers for a rookie.  Now he has Josh McDaniels as an offensive coordinator and, in case you haven't heard, he's pretty good with quarterbacks.

Last year he had a 60 percent completion rate, 3,500 yards and 18 touchdowns.  All of that was with, by far, the worst receiving corps in the NFL.  They completely revamped the unit and Bradford now has a very respectable group of receivers.  Between McDaniels and capable wideouts all of those numbers should increase.

I'd say 63 percent completion, 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns shouldn't be unexpected.

Michael Vick: Bust

2 of 4

Vick is an extraordinary talent, and as Vick owners from last year will tell you, can win you matchups basically singlehandedly.

Don't draft him.

You'll need to spend a first-round pick on him, and honestly I don't think he'll make it through the season without missing any games.  You don't want to have your first-round pick an extreme injury risk.

He'd be lucky to play 13 games and odds are he'll miss more games later in the year when all the hits start to pile up. What do you know? The end of the season is fantasy playoff time.  The upside is there, but the downside of losing your first-round pick during the playoffs is way too high, at least for me, to justify taking Vick.

Javon Ringer: Sleeper

3 of 4

Chris Johnson is back.  So, why would I like Javon Ringer?  Chris Johnson has missed ALL of training camp, preseason and is more than likely not in playing shape.

You may see something similar to what happened to Darrelle Revis last year which is mediocre play to start followed by an injury.  So, naturally, his backup who has shown potential should do well.

Matthew Stafford: Bust

4 of 4

Do not take Matthew Stafford to be your starting quarterback.

Is he talented? Yup.  If he stays healthy is he a stud? You bet.

He has missed more games than he has played in his career (13 games played vs. 19 games missed).  He's basically asking for you to drop him with a season-ending injury.  Does he make a fantastic option if you have a consistent commodity to be with him, say, Joe Flacco?  Absolutely.  Should he be your far and away starter?  Absolutely not.
