3 WWE Wrestlers Who Should Send 3 Veterans into Retirement
The truth is that sooner or later everybody's time comes up. It's the inevitable in anything we do and unfortunately for athletes, it comes even sooner.
No matter how loved they are and how much merchandise they sell, there is an expiration date for each and every single wrestler and when it comes, they must step away and let the torch be passed. In some instances, they can pass the torch themselves.
These are some "superstars" who I think should start their last feud soon and help the next generation of wrestlers who will shoulder the WWE.
Goldust
1 of 7Even though he has been injured since the end of 2010, he is 42 and to be honest, his act doesn't mean as much anymore.
I mean, we have Lady Gaga and she is pretty much the next "bizarre one." In the 90s, this was shocking, but now it's just an old hat.
With that said, he is a name and he still might have one last feud in him to help put someone over as a decent contender.
Who needs help in proving that they're actually tough?
Well that would be...
Zack Ryder
2 of 7The Internet champion.
Admit it. The feud itself would be hilarious, with each guy making ridiculous jokes with an equally ridiculous character. However, it also has a serious point.
If Zack could mention how he feels like the older generation has kept guys like him off TV by staying too long and that he felt obligated to defend his new-found fame by getting rid of Goldust, I think it would deepen his character.
I would also make a mention of how he sent Tommy Dreamer into retirement and declare that Dustin would be next. After about two or three PPV shows where Zack beats Goldust, but not by much, I would have them have one last match and get Zack to brutally finish him off. This way we can have Ryder, but a Ryder who is taken more seriously.
Rey Mysterio
3 of 7His knee just isn't getting better.
I know he sells a bunch of merchandise.
I know kids love him.
But time moves on.
He has had five knee surgeries. He might need another. Plus, he is already 36 and as old as that is for a wrestler, it's even older for a high flyer.
I realize that the WWE doesn't want to kill a golden goose, but this one is running on empty. He needs to lose and be forced into retirement so a heel can be created, one that needs to show that not only is he to be despised by all, but that he is a threat, too.
You know who needs that?
Wade Barrett
4 of 7Shocked?
I'm sure a lot of you were guessing Alberto Del Rio, but I think that is a bit cliched and, frankly, after winning the belt, he shouldn't need any more help.
Barrett, on the other hand, needs that final push. Everyone saw his potential as the leader of the Nexus. He was nasty, intelligent, violent and manipulative, all perfect heel qualities. In fact, nothing about the man really screams face.
However, to be able to be a truly hated villain he needs to do something horrendous. Breaking a hero to children like Mysterio would do that.
Imagine that they have a feud. At the end, finally Barrett beats Mysterio in their final PPV match. Then he stomps on his leg until some baby face comes in and chases him out. The next night on RAW, Mysterio announces his retirement.
Barrett would have a golden ticket to first-class heel status and a great WWE career.
The Undertaker
5 of 7I already know that putting the title that I did is going to get some hateful comments, but I believe I'm right here.
The Undertaker needs to lose and retire.
At WrestleMania next year.
I can already feel the blood boiling and the fingers typing.
However, isn't this what wrestling is supposed to do? Piss you off and then make you happy? Besides, the streak is a perfect way to push a young guy and give him some of the easiest, most instant credibility that would be otherwise impossible.
So who should it be.
CM Punk? No, he has his own thing and doesn't need to be and shouldn't be tied to anyone else.
Cena? Like he needs to look even more super.
Orton? Same problem as Cena.
So who should it be?
The Miz
6 of 7Doesn't that sound awesome? Well, probably not to many of you, but I think it is.
Let's face it. Not a lot of fans are ever going to love the Miz. He is an MTV darling and because of that will always be hated. He isn't the guy who struggled for years in the indies and he actually got into the WWE by being on a reality show, which he probably got on because he had been on a reality show.
In other words, he is the exact opposite of the Undertaker. He is everything that fans of Taker despise, and that is why he should break the streak.
WrestleMania 28 occurs and he and Undertaker fight. It's obvious that Mark is a shell of what he was and that the Miz is not the better wrestler, but just a younger guy. 10 years ago the outcome would have been different, but now Calaway is 46 and Miz is 30. The age is all the difference and the Miz beats the Undertaker, breaks the streak and retires Calaway.
The outcry would be monstrous. The anger justifiable. The desire to see the Miz beaten unbearable.
It would make him the ultimate villain and more importantly, it would make him look tough, which is the final thing he's lacking.
Your Thoughts
7 of 7So What do you think.
Angry?
Confused?
Go ahead and jot it down and let me know what you think.
Let's just remember that though we want to see the guys we have invested so much time in keep going and retire on top, the show must go on and new fans must be made.
After all, it's good for business.
