UFC Power Rankings: 5 Fights That All Fans Want to See
Over the last several years in the UFC, Dana White has sent the sport of Ultimate Fighting through the roof. It has come to be one of the largest growing sports on the face of the earth. While we have witnessed some of the most spectacular fights of all time, as fans we still want more.
While the big issue of the fighter’s weight class comes into play, there are still fights we want to see. I am speaking on behalf of UFC fans when I reveal the five potential fights that fans are dying to see.
Please sit back and enjoy.
5. Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar
1 of 5While this matchup is unlikely to happen it is one of the talked-about bouts in the lower weight classes.
For this fight to happen Aldo would either have to jump up to the Light Weight division or Edgar would have to bump down to the Feather Weight division.
There would be nothing better than two lighter weight title holders squaring off inside the Octagon. While Edgar successfully defeated previous title holder B.J Penn on two separate occasions, his latest bout at UFC 125 vs. Gray Maynard ended in a Draw.
Eight of Edgar's 10 fights have gone to the judge’s scorecards. On the flip side, seven of Aldo’s 9 fights have been a TKO victory.
4. Rashad Evans vs. Jon Jones
2 of 5Many UFC fans are wondering whats next for Rashad Evans. It appears he is certainly making a push for a title shot against young gun Jon "Bones" Jones" but when will/could this happen?
While Jones has already proven himself inside the Octagon he has yet to be fully tested. He's defeated Ryan Bader and Mauricio Rua but Rua is on the decline. We will see exactly how great Jones can be when he matches up with Rampage Jackson at UFC 135.
Evans defeated Tito Ortiz in impressing fashion at UFC 133 after being off for more than a full year. If Jones defeats Rampage I believe this is the next matchup we will see. This sounds like a match made in heaven.
3. Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II
3 of 5UFC fans across the globe are dying to see a UFC 117 rematch. This was the first time Silva’s weaknesses were revealed. Sonnen dominated the entire fight only to be submitted in the fifth round of action allowing Silva to remain the Middle Weight Champion by the skin of his teeth.
In the bout, Sonnen out struck Silva 89 to 29 and took down Silva three different times. While Sonnen walked away without the title, he was the first fighter to stand toe to toe and have the advantage over Silva.
Many disagreed with Dana White's decision to give Sonnen a title fight as it would be another "walk in the park for Silva." They were wrong. It is very likely that we will see this rematch in the near future.
2. Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones
4 of 5The talk of this fight has quickly grown as Jones has been completely dominant in the 205 weight class and emerged as the Light Heavyweight Title Holder. While fans are dying for this fight to be put on a card, the likelihood is slim to none.
Either Silva or Jones would have to jump up or bump down a weight class. Then both fighters would have to agree to fight one another which Silva has already declared he would not fight Jones because he is a close friend.
Silva hasn't lost a fight since January 2006 and Jones has never lost unless you include the DQ against Matt Hamill. In that fight, Jones out struck Hamill 44 to 5 in just the first round of action. Regardless of their friendship, fans want to see this fight.
1. Anderson Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre
5 of 5This is the fight the fans have been raving about since the emergence of both these fighters. Silva hasn’t lost a Title match since January 2006 and GSP, April 2007. Both of these fighters have gone through their weight classes without a single loss over the past four years.
It was rumored that this fight may occur when UFC travels to Quebec, Canada, also GSP’s hometown but nothing more has been revealed.
While it is uncertain whether or not these two would ever square off, one thing’s for sure: It would go down as the most-popular UFC Fight in the history of the sport.
