So much for getting into the NFL the easy way, Terrelle Pryor.
That being said, is this the correct ethical stance the NFL should be taking on Terrelle Pryor's NCAA allegations?
Yes.
Why? Because it shows that, no matter what the case, rules cannot be in any way, shape or form and then completely ignored once accused/convicted.
Not choosing to return to Ohio State University after the accusations and suspensions commenced was not the right decision. In other words, he's saying that he doesn't want to sit for five games, despite being suspended.
And another concern is, what kind of message does that send to current college athletes and prospective recruits about competing in the collegiate level? That they can just "do away" with their suspension and respective university, and then try to go compete at the pro level in their sport?
It doesn't make any sense, and he has put himself in a pickle in which there's no escaping the consequences.
Since the NCAA suspended him, Pryor bolted for the NFL. Now they are taking corrective action so something like this doesn't happen again.
And it shouldn't.
Lest we forget, Terrelle Pryor was planning on returning to the Buckeyes for his senior season before everything leaked out and hit the fan (so to speak).
Now, for those thinking it's about what he actually did in order to receive the five-game suspension from the NCAA, no. That is a completely separate issue unto itself.
However, choosing to think that you are above and beyond all policies and regulations is the current situation.
It's the principle of the fact—that when you put yourself in a situation like Terrelle Pryor has, you must pay the consequences.
The NFL saw that he tried to elude the NCAA and come to them so he couldn't miss playing any football games.
Well, in addition to everything he's done, he must also go through everything that all rookies go through in the NFL. But he didn't because he didn't make up his mind until way late.
In some respect, it's a good thing the NFL lockout ended when it did.
Just in time.
