Minnesota Vikings 2011 Predictions: Donovan McNabb Will Lose Job by Season's End

Rob SirplessJun 7, 2018

Donovan McNabb has been brought to the Minnesota Vikings to guide and mentor Christian Ponder—the 12th overall pick in April's draft. However, he was also brought in with the expectation that he could lead the Vikings into the playoffs.

Now, McNabb could very well give a great performance this season and return to his Pro Bowl form. In Minnesota, play-makers are there to help him out, which wasn't the case in Washington last season.

Still, even a great season may not be enough in the very tough NFC North division.

I personally believe that McNabb is not going to find his old form. All players start to lose their touch as they get older and outside of Kurt Warner there aren't many quarterbacks who rebound from subpar seasons, like what McNabb had last year.

Once the ship begins to sink will Frazier stop pondering and just pull the plug on his veteran and hope that his "Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco" can jump in and save things? Absolutely! At the very worst it will prepare Ponder for 2012.

A one-year contract shows the Vikings aren't interested in McNabb long term, but that the coaching staff is interested in winning in 2011. And if they can trot out their, I repeat, THEIR chosen one (Ponder), to save the day they undoubtedly will.

As I said before though. McNabb could come out strong and do a great job. He may even mirror what Favre did in 2009. But anything short of that will lose him the starting role.

No one will blame a poor season on anyone except McNabb, it's not fair, it's just the way it will go down.

And then Ponder becomes Minnesota's White Knight.
