WWE Needs More Than a Tag Team and Women's Divison Revival

Marc QuarantaJun 7, 2018

The WWE is on an uprising and every week the fans are wondering if it is just a one-time deal or if the WWE is headed out of the PG era. After this past Monday Night Raw that ended with John Cena actually showing some violence, it is safe to say the WWE is changing for the better.

Recent reports have stated that the two things you will definitely be seeing are a revival in the Tag Team division and a more competitive Women's Division. All I can say is thank goodness for these. The WWE's best Tag Team era was without a doubt the days of Edge and Christian, the Hardy Boys, the Dudley boys, APA and others.

They put on matches that took the fans' breath away, they had gimmicks and they had the storylines to get the people interested. And you could say that since then the Tag Teams have been just short of terrible, but that isn't all that true. There have been some decent teams since then: M&M, The World's Greatest Tag Team, Los Guerreros. But even those teams were sub-par, and since then there has been nothing.

That is soon to be changing. Right now the Tag Team champions are Otunga and McGillicutty, and not too many people are going to say they have what it takes to be champions. Are they a great team? Not yet. Can they be? Yes, I think so. They have the attitude, and have some pretty cool moves. The back elbow-clothesline in the turnbuckle is a cool move. The only reason they aren't at all relevant is because they have no competition. The WWE is working to sign some more tag teams, including the Kings of Wrestling, and is working on developing more in FCW. Once these teams arrive, all will be well with the Tag Team division.

When it comes to the Women's division, it is safe to say that it hasn't been the same since Trish Stratus left. I truly do not believe that a single one of the divas is worth the time in the ring (at least the way it's been written over the years).

But the way Beth Phoenix and Natalya are working right now, they deserve all the spotlight in the ring. I don't mind Kelly Kelly, the Bella Twins or Eve, because the WWE has always had the women who are more eye candy than pure athletes (Torrie Wilson, Stacy Kiebler), but it needs more of the athlete type.

Pushing the Bella Twins, while Gail Kim has to throw herself under the rope to get noticed is a mistake. Letting go of Mickie James was a mistake, Victoria walking was a mistake. Keep Kelly Kelly, and keep a couple other "cute" divas, but get some more in the ring that can actually wrestle. They made a good step when they signed "Kharma," but unfortunately she had to take time off. When she returns, and having Beth and Natalya, the Women's division has some talent. Just get some more athletes and they are gold.

But there is still one big problem, and if the WWE doesn't fix this then there isn't going to be much improvement (There will be, but fix it so that the WWE is perfect).

The WWE needs to improve its MidCard. The Intercontinental championship has not had much importance since 2004 champions Randy Orton and Edge. Besides the Miz's reign as US Champion, that hasn't been important since John Cena's run.

But it's not just about the championship, it's about the wrestlers. These guys come into the WWE with character and attitude, and their own special style, but it is buried in a matter of months because the writing in the Mid-Card area is uneventful and stale.

The WWE needs to take some creative writers on their staff, and make a special group that is designed to simply write Mid-Card feuds. I think the problem is that too many guys are stuck in their ways.

In the Main Event spotlight, Randy Orton, CM Punk, Christian, Mark Henry and Sheamus have all turned from face to heel and vice versa.

The Mid-Card wrestlers have been face or heel, respectively, for who-knows-how-long.

For example, one thing I think needs to happen, is have Kofi Kingston turn on Evan Bourne. Kofi can be a heel, because right now he is a stale face.

Have more guys turn on each other. I think they are in the right direction with A-Ry and Dolph Ziggler. Dolph seems to be coming close to turning on Vikki, but who knows. These guys need more personal problems because fighting over the IC and US title isn't doing it, probably because the championships don't matter too much anymore.
