AC Milan Transfer News: Schweinsteiger, Alcantara Highlight Latest Rumors

Tim FontenaultJun 5, 2018

We are now two weeks away from the final day of the transfer window and Milan have not made a move since the acquisition of Stephan El Shaarawy on a co-ownership with Genoa.

The Italian champions are bound to make a move before the month of August is over, but the mystery continues as to who the target may be.

For a long time, the rumors pointed to either Alberto Aquilani or Riccardo Montolivo as the man, but things appear to have changed a little bit.

After being linked with the club earlier this summer, Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger appears to be back near the top of the wish list, according to reports.

The 27-year-old German has been linked with the club on several occasions this summer, but it was believed that the price tag for the star may be too high.

If reports are to be believed, the Rossoneri are launching a €25 million bid for the midfielder who is valued at €35 million according to transfermarket.de. It is possible Milan could add a player into the mix, maybe someone like Mathieu Flamini.

Schweinsteiger appears interested in the club and said in the report above that you can never rule out a move.

The problem with a move for Schweinsteiger falls with today's UEFA Champions League matchup between Bayern Munich and FC Zurich. If Schweinsteiger appears for Bayern Munich, he will be cup-tied for the rest of the season. As Milan's primary objective is the Champions League, they may not want to move for a cup-tied player.

Remember, this past winter, Milan bought Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria), Mark Van Bommel (Bayern Munich), Nicola Legrottaglie (Juventus) and Urby Emanuelson (Ajax). All were cup-tied from earlier in the season and while Cassano and Van Bommel were big parts of Milan's Scudetto run, they were unavailable for help in the Champions League, which was a major problem.

Milan may get extra ambitious and make an attempt at one of the brightest young players in the world.

If reports are to be believed, AC Milan are pursuing Barcelona starlet Thiago Alcantara. This seems an impossible task as the 20-year-old is considered an untouchable gem at the world's best club.

Some problems stare Thiago in the face though. In the past couple months, the Spaniard has been considered the replacement to Xavi and/or Andres Iniesta in the midfield at the Nou Camp.

However, Thiago has now been stripped of his number four, given to Barca's newest midfielder Cesc Fabregas. Alcantara certainly won't be starting very much and could still see time, but while the Blaugrana say he is not for sale, a loan or purchase cannot be completely ruled out. Anything is possible, much like Schweinsteiger said in his interview.

Whatever happens will happen in the next two weeks. We have heard Mr. X being every sort of player possible. Who is it going to be?
