Little League World Series 2011: Profiling Every American Team
The Little League World Series is a breath of fresh air during the dry Summer months in the world of sports. Teams gather from near and far to take part in the LLWS in Williamsport, but only one of the 16 teams in the tournament will reign victorious.
Half the field is comprised of American teams. Let's take a look at eight American teams that will be competing in the 2011 Little League World Series.
La Grange, Kentucky
1 of 8There were so many highlights of the regional semifinal and final for La Grange, Kentucky that it's tough to decide what the most important part of their qualifying tournament run was.
Maybe it was the combined 11-run differential. Perhaps it was the fact that they put forth two shut-out performances or the fact that they were able to bury a worthy opponent 8-0 in the semis. Regardless, this team has a bright future after such a promising showing.
Beech Creek, Pennsylvania
2 of 8The team from Beech Creek has the unique opportunity to play with home field advantage. They are less than 30 minutes away from Williamsport and won't exactly have to make lofty travel accommodations for the "journey."
After an extensive rain delay, the team powered their way into the last LLWS spot. The team is undefeated and one of the most feared teams in the entire tournament.
Rapid City, South Dakota
3 of 8Rapid City has a ton of firepower in their lineup. In the semifinals and finals alone, they racked up 11 runs. Unsuitable conditions ended their game in the final and allowed them to advance to the LLWS.
They are only the second team in South Dakota history to earn a spot in the tournament.
Cumberland, Rhode Island
4 of 8A ridiculous 13 runs propelled Cumberland, Rhode Island to a Little League World Series berth. While they allowed seven runs in the same game, it's tough to beat a team that has the potential to explode for such an impressive onslaught of scoring.
They allowed seven runs in the semis and final, but the monster runs the team can muster has made them impossible to handle.
Billings, Montana
5 of 8After dominating Bend, Oregon in a resounding 7-1 victory Billings, Montana became the first team to ever appear in the Little League World Series.
Cole Mckenzie's big bat rendered a grand slam in their last outing. He and the rest of the team will be looking to carry that magic with them to Williamsport.
Warner Robins, Georgia
6 of 8Jacob Giles put Warner Robins, Georgia on his back and single handedly carried them to victory. Down 2-0 in the sixth inning, Giles was responsible for the first two runs and an RBI double that sent his team to Williamsport.
The team is set to square off against Lafayette, Louisiana in their opening game.
Lafayette, Louisiana
7 of 8You want to talk about a rally? Lafayette, Louisiana battled back from 7-2 to obtain a remarkable 8-7 comeback victory to earn their keep in this tournament.
There is nothing that brings a team closer than a close win, and that sort of confidence boost couldn't have come at a better time.
Huntington Beach, California
8 of 8Redemption is sweet for Huntington Beach, California who lost in the regional semifinals last year to Hawaii.
They get another shot after rallying to victory behind the bat of Nick Pratto, who tripled and sparked the resurgence of the team. This team has the resolve to stand strong in this tournament.
