Miami Dolphins: Calculating Chances Every Dolphins Rookie Makes the Final Cut

Adam SpencerJun 7, 2018

The Miami Dolphins will have a lot of turnover in terms of personnel this season, especially on offense.

Running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both gone from the offense.

And linebacker Channing Crowder recently retired, surprising everyone.

Therefore, rookies are going to play a big role this season in Miami.

Let's take a look at the chances each of the Dolphins' six 2011 NFL Draft picks makes the opening day roster.

7th Round, Pick 235: Jimmy Wilson, CB, Montana

1 of 6

Vontae Davis (pictured here) and Sean Smith are the starting cornerbacks.

But, guys like Nolan Carroll, Nate Ness and Wilson can make the team because of their ability to perform on special teams.

Wilson might not get to play corner very often during his rookie year, but he can contribute right away on special teams.

Chance He Makes the Team: 75 percent.

7th Round, Pick 231: Frank Kearse, DT, Alabama A&M

2 of 6

First of all, look at that hair! Ridiculous.

That hair belongs to Paul Soliai, the Dolphins' starting nose tackle.

Kearse is battling to be his backup, but the Dolphins signed veteran Ronald Fields to compete for that spot as well.

It's an open competition, but I'm giving the slight edge to the veteran Fields.

Chance He Makes the Team: 40 percent.

6th Round, Pick 174: Charles Clay, FB/TE, Tulsa

3 of 6

The Dolphins seem pretty high on the hybrid FB/TE from Tulsa.

He can stretch the field from the TE position and could be a valuable backup to Anthony Fasano.

If he can keep having a strong training camp, he should be a lock to make the final cut.

Chance He Makes the Team: 90 percent.

4th Round, Pick 111: Edmond Gates, WR, Abilene Christian

4 of 6

Davone Bess (pictured here) is a solid slot receiver and special teams return man.

Edmond "Clyde" Gates has the chance to develop into a similar type of player.

He is currently listed as the team's fourth receiver, meaning it's likely he will be able to make the team coming out of training camp.

Chance He Makes the Team: 75 percent.

2nd Round, Pick 62: Daniel Thomas, RB, Kansas State

5 of 6

Daniel Thomas is expected to carry a heavy load this season.

He's going to be part of a running back tandem featuring the newly-signed Reggie Bush.

He'll need to try to replace some of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams' production in the running game.

For that reason, he's a lock to make the final cut.

Chance He Makes the Team: 100 percent.

1st Round, Pick 15: Mike Pouncey, C, Florida

6 of 6

Mike Pouncey has been looking pretty darn good in training camp and the preseason so far.

If the Dolphins are going to have a strong year running the football, it has to start with Pouncey.

He's the one responsible for getting everyone on the O-line in sync.

And, by all accounts, he's doing a pretty good job so far.

Chance He Makes the Team: 100 percent.
