HARRINGTON, DE, NOV. 9
HARRINGTON, DE-When Kenny Yoder lined up his Suzuki for the 450A Final Sunday November 9th at Delaware Dirt Track Association’s Harrington, DE track he was joined by four other former AMA Grand National numbered riders. No doubt the pressure was on all of them. When the initial green flag flew so did Suzuki mounted Georgie Price.
“I was trying to pull out front, but Georgie went around me on the outside,” described Yoder of East Earl, PA. Before the 10-rider field could complete a second circuit the caution flag followed by the red flag waved for a downed rider. “I moved up to his (Price) line on the restart and then things worked out pretty good for me from there,” Yoder explained.
When racing resumed Yoder blasted into the lead and ran a tight line on the bottom with Price, Tom Majeski (Rotax) and John Lewis (Yam) trying desperately to steal it from him. With the field battling for positions behind him Yoder held off all challengers including a late race challenge from Majeski who almost made it past Yoder at the end. Yoder prevailed for his second win of the day. Earlier he out rode Lewis for Sportsman A’s win.
“The Suzuki bike handled good, buy the main event it was working real good just off the bottom,” Yoder said adding, “It’s a good track; a lot of fun and it’s a good place to learn.”
Trailing Majeski in 450A’s top five were Lewis, Price and former Grand National rider Chris Klinefelter. Following Lewis in Sportsman A’s top five were Klinefelter, Tyler Kidwell (Yam) and James Owens (Yam).
“It was a good race,” Price described. “Me and Tom (Majeski) got off second and third off the line and this track is just so racy you can come off the corners and just dump the throttle because that’s how fast it is. It was a rough battle, but a clean battle all the same. It was fun. The Suzuki bike worked great. Dan Perry owns it and let me ride it today he and his brother Kenny Yoder build a wonderful race bike here.”
Local rider Don Johnson, of Milford, DE dominated 450B. Jeffrey Salevan (Yam) was a close second followed by Kade Keily (Rotax). “It was tight the track was a little rutty but it was fast,” said Johnson who added that he was coming off a 16-year absence from dirt track racing.
In other action Roy Miller (Suz) ruled 250 Sportsman A beating out Lewis, Travis Diem (Suz) and Ronnie Mercer (Hon). Majeski mastered Vet A with Henry Mangels and Cambridge, MD rider Bill Boram (Yam) in tow. Dan Perry (Suz) out rode Jeff Webb (Suz) in Vet B.
Sparrowspoint, MD rider Rebecca Zofia recorded two wins. Riding a Kawasaki she beat Ronnie Miller (Hon) in 250B and she scored a solo win in Sportsman B.
“It was a lot of fun. I just expected to have fun, but it’s always nice to win! Zofia beamed after her second win. “The Kawasaki ran perfect. Dad got it set up perfect so it ran good. I loved the track; it’s a lot of fun. It’s more fun than the other local tracks. I’m definitely coming back next week”
Price and Boram recorded solo wins in 65cc and 70’s Singles and Douglas Cook topped Julius Grow in 55cc.
