Four Reasons Why Tim Tebow Will Be a Successful NFL Quarterback

Baily DeeterJun 7, 2018

You can put this many ways, but I'll do it in the simplest form; Tim Tebow has caused a debate.

Many think that pride has carried Tebow too far, but others think his running ability and success at Florida will lead to greater success in the NFL.

While most believe failure awaits in the NFL, I beg to differ. Tebow has a 67.1 percent completion percentage, has thrown 88 touchdowns, compared to 15 interceptions and he has played on two championship college teams.

There are reasons why people think Tebow will be the next Michael Vick, or the next Tim Couch. Everyone is watching the Florida stud to see if they were right. Will he be successful?

Here are four reasons why Tebow will be successful.

Reason 1: Work Ethic

1 of 4

If you don't think Tim Tebow works hard, you don't know Tim Tebow.

His work ethic got him to Florida. His work ethic got him the starting quarterback job. It got him a national championship. And now, it got him to the NFL.

Tebow has won a Heisman Trophy, he has been a two-time first-team All-American, a QB of the Year winner, you name it. Tebow has had success in college.

But to make it to the NFL, he had to go through lots of training rituals. Throwing, core work, weights, you name it. The ritual was grueling for Tebow, but it was worth it.

While work ethic and college success doesn't always translate to the NFL, as only the top college players are able to play in the NFL, it helps.

And work ethic will support Tim Tebow.

Reason 2: John Fox

While most coaches trust veterans (Kyle Orton), John Fox has confidence in younger players (Tim Tebow).

Josh McDaniels had enough confidence to trade a lot to Baltimore to obtain the first-round pick that they used to trade Tebow, but he never used Tebow. Assistant Eric Studesville played Tebow when he became coach.

While Tebow's team may have gone 1-2, he got them 23-plus points in each game. In their win over Houston, Tebow orchestrated a comeback from down 17 points as the Broncos won by one.

Fox knows what Tebow did then. And while Brady Quinn may have turned in a strong performance in the Broncos preseason opener, and while Kyle Orton may be first on the depth chart, Tebow will see playing time.

If Orton struggles early, then Fox will go to Tebow. If Tebow struggles, he will go to Quinn.

Fox may not play Tebow early, but he will give Tebow at least three games. Josh McDaniels had more confidence in Kyle Orton then most would, but Fox likes Tebow.

Reason 3: Previous NFL Success

3 of 4

It may not be much to show, but it's success.

Tim Tebow has thrown five touchdowns and three interceptions, ran for two touchdowns (including a 39-yard TD run on third-and-24 and a game-winner), and given the Broncos 23-plus points each time.

Don't forget the preseason, where he has gone 31-for-46 with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Tebow may not be the most accurate quarterback, and he may not be the best quarterback for fantasy, but he can lead successful scoring drives.

Like I said, Tebow has some problems with his accuracy, but that is a quick fix. He can throw touchdowns and run for touchdowns, and since he can do so much, he provides many options.

Tebow is a multi-threat quarterback, and he is a great option for Denver.

Expect him to see playing time soon.

Reason 4: Different Abilities

4 of 4

Tim Tebow has many abilities.

In his first year as a Gator, he was a backup quarterback, who also ran some QB draws. Knowing what they had in him, Florida converted him to a quarterback. In 2007, he ran for 23 touchdowns.

In the NFL, he will present many threats. If he sees an opening, he will run the ball. If he sees a receiver, he will pass the ball.

Tebow will draw comparisons to Michael Vick. They are both left-handed, they can both run the ball and they can both pass the ball.

While some still have their doubts about Tebow (and Vick), he presents lots of talent. And John Fox and his staff know what they have in Tebow. When Denver will use Tebow remains a questions, but if they will use him is no longer a question.

Neither is this question: Will Tim Tebow succeed in the NFL?
