WWE Monday Night Raw Reactions: The 5 Best Moments
With the appointment of Triple H as the new C.O.O of the WWE, a number of changes have already come to the forefront. We’ve gone from not having a WWE Champion to having two, then to Triple H refereeing the Undisputed Title match.
This past Monday was no different, as it added something new and reintroduced characters we thought would never make it back on a WWE live broadcast.
Kevin Nash
1 of 5The rehiring of Kevin Nash is likely to appease a lot of older Wrestling fans, who may have started to feel a little out of touch with the current product.
It was announced that Nash had signed a five-year "Legends" contract with the company back in January. His appearance on Raw, we’re led to believe, was at the hands of Triple H, with Big Daddy Cool announcing he was asked to “take out” the winner of the Summerslam main event.
As of yet we don’t know where this angle is going. It still remains to be seen whether Nash has been brought back as a heel or even a prominent character.
But there is a little excitement with the return of one of the members of the NWO. A lot of old-school WWE fans will surely be hoping for a new, dominant stable.
John Cena/Alberto Del Rio Segment
2 of 5I’ll openly admit to being on the side of the crowd that openly "boo" John Cena. I don’t like his character, I don’t like what he represents as a character and above all I can’t stand that WWE Championship belt he introduced. But this was good.
Following Del Rio’s victory of Rey Mysterio in a WWE title match, Cena came down to that ring to cut a promo on his opinion of the Mexican aristocrat—but not before attempting to pummel the smug look off of Del Rio's face.
The former WWE champion was obviously incensed at losing the WWE title match the previous night in the manner in which he did. He did, however, explain that his anger was directed towards Del Rio, stating he did not win the title fairly and had no right to call himself a champion.
I think it was a little too early to bring Del Rio into this title picture. I especially felt the Cena/Punk feud had not run it’s course, negating the need for a third character to be brought into this story.
A predictable and unneeded Triple Threat match is likely to be held at the next PPV. I just hope that whatever the outcome of this one is, it doesn’t dampen the so far incredible "Summer of Punk."
John Morrison vs. R Truth
3 of 5It’s good to see that Morrison hasn’t been greatly affected by the injury that kept him out for the past couple of months. As always, his match with R Truth was great to watch, with plenty of high-flying spots. The stipulation of "Falls Count Anywhere" was welcome, as it allowed Morrison to showcase his ability outside the ring.
I believe that this is the best place for R Truth right now—and Morrison for that matter—as they are mid card battling other superstars who aren’t quite at the level to compete for the WWE Title. I believe it’s something C.O.O Triple H and Vince McMahon have looked into in great detail. The WWE mid-card has been really lacking as of late, with far too many wrestlers being given a push that is often unwarranted (see Alberto Del Rio).
Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne vs. David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty
4 of 5You can always be assured of a high risk manoeuvre whenever Kingston and Bourne are about. They delivered again in this non-title contest.
I think Bourne and Kingston may finally have found a niche for themselves. The idea that these two could take the Tag Team belts off the former Nexus members (I suppose there is no Nexus anymore, is there?) would be a lot of fun to watch.
Otunga and McGillicutty bring nothing to an already dead tag team division. It seems that without a leader in either CM Punk or Wade Barrett, these two are left to wander the halls backstage, waiting for a match every other week.
With Bourne and Kingston picking up the victory after Bourne hit the "450 splash," I’m sure a title rematch is on the cards for next week. It will be a welcome change and could possibly bring some life back to tag team wrestling.
CM Punk/Kevin Nash Segment
5 of 5The "Summer of Punk" continues, as the former WWE champion interrupts Kevin Nash during his "welcome back" speech.
Its nice that the WWE has allowed Punk to openly talk about wrestling’s past—the good and the bad. The two men discussed Nash’s world title reigns and that he and Scott Hall paved the way for guys like Punk to succeed in the business. I’ll give it to them, they did make it edgier.
It seemed, though, that Nash wasn’t too impressed with the way Punk had been conducting himself over the past two months. Nash pointed out that Punk’s short title reigns don’t give him the platform to voice apparently unwarranted views.
Like I’ve said, it’s nice to have someone from wrestling’s past back in the picture. Hopefully along with Triple H, Nash can help to elevate the career’s of some of the other wrestlers who haven’t quite been put over yet.
