EPL: Why Arsenal FC Will Not Have Their Dream Season This Year
After a spectacular show at the UEFA Champions League last season where they gave the winner, Barcelona, a run for their money, Arsenal has begun to face troubles. Players are leaving and there is a possibility that they might not make the top four in the EPL. There are several reasons why this once untouchable team will have difficulty keeping their top position.
With the long-awaited departure of Cesc Fabregas fresh in everybody's mind, the players and the fans await a new star to fill the role that is so eagerly provided. It seems Arsene Wenger has been too busy dealing with rival Manchester City, which are trying to obtain one of their finest prodigies, Samir Nasri, to sign a top player. With this delay extending into the beginning of the season, things aren't looking too good for Arsenal.
Building on what has been mentioned earlier, many star prodigies—Nasri, Nicklas Bendtner and Denilson—have threatened to leave the club due to various reasons, including better contracts with other clubs and insufficient playing time.
The loss of Nasri would be devastating because he is the visionary of the entire midfield. Not only is he one of Arsenal's top scorers, but he can also drive the ball towards the goal using extraordinary passing skills. Losing this brilliant midfielder would be a disappointment, indeed.
Another player potentially leaving North London is Nicklas Bendtner. This confident and strong player was always an asset to an ailing Arsenal team. One of the reasons this player might be leaving is he didn't get nearly enough playing time as he deserved. With his ability to keep possesion of the ball while being swarmed by defenders was wasted while on the bench. Nicklas Bendtner went to waste on Arsenal and did not get the credit he most desperately desired.
Defense has always been a problem at the Emirates. With poor defensive techniques showing in last season's strategies, Arsenal looked to improve. With the return of Thomas Vermaelen, the defense shall improve as this player should be able to lead the shaky Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs. Many of their losses or ties last season were due to late goals by the opposing team. If Arsenal wants a shot a the EPL trophy, improvements must be made.
This season, fans might not be cheering "this is our year." It might not be "1-0 to the Arsenal." It might turn out to be a struggling team just trying to compete against the powerhouse clubs, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Hopefully, things will improve at the Emirates, although it might not be this season.
