Tottenham Transfer News: Robbie Keane Officially Leaves Spurs for MLS' LA Galaxy

Mohamed Al-HendyJun 1, 2018

Robbie Keane's time with the Spurs has finally come to a conclusion, according to BBC Sports. The Irish striker has completed a move MLS' LA Galaxy for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £3.5 million.

Getting past the sentimentality of the move and the loss of one of the classiest players to ever wear a Tottenham shirt, there's a lot of significance to be attached to this move.

For one, it seems like this will be the transfer that gets the wheels rolling in the sales department for Tottenham.

Robbie Keane's sale to the LA Galaxy is the first first-team sale or purchase made since June 21st when Jamie O'Hara was sold to Wolverhampton Wanderers for £5 million. The move adds about £3.5 million to Tottenham's coffers and should instigate the completion of transfer deals for David Bentley, Wilson Palacios and hopefully Peter Crouch.

More directly, however, the sale of Robbie Keane should free up some of the funds necessary to sign Emmanuel Adebayor, who's initially reported loan agreement with Tottenham seems to not yet be complete with disputes on how much of Adebayor's wages each team will cover holding up the deal.

What do you think? Was a move to the LA Galaxy the best move for Robbie Keane, or should he have stayed in England, with Leicester City reportedly having shown great interest in signing the Ireland captain?

How about for Tottenham? Did Robbie Keane absolutely need to be sold, or should Spurs have possibly tried to retain him and focus more on selling Peter Crouch?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the subject and even your predictions on how this move will pan out for Tottenham and Robbie Keane.
