Seattle Seahawks Football: 5 Players Who Impressed in First Preseason Game
While it is only a preseason game, I was pretty impressed in the 'Hawks ability to make a nice little comeback and beat a solid San Diego Chargers team.
Lots of guys earned their stripes, and many big names were on the bench to preserve health and many unknown names and faces played well.
Here's a look at the five players who impressed the most.
5. Thomas Clayton
1 of 5Clayton did not blow anybody away, but he did have more than double the next highest rusher for either team.
On 16 carries, Clayton racked up 62 yards as well as a touchdown.
Clayton is helping his position on the depth chart.
4. Dominque Byrd
2 of 5Byrd is definitely helping his position on the depth chart.
Right now, most people have Byrd either at third or fourth tight end spot. With more big plays and consistency, Byrd could work his way up the depth chart and see more playing time in regular season games.
Or at least keep his spot on the team.
3. K.J. Wright
3 of 5Wright had three times as many tackles than the next Seahawks, and he had a pretty good game.
Wright doesn’t have a huge chance of passing David Hawthorne for the starting middle linebacker spot, but he can still work to keep his second string spot.
Also, if he continues to impress, he may get more playing time rotating in.
2. Doug Baldwin
4 of 5Baldwin really only had one really special play.
His kick off return immediately following Seattle’s special team failure for 41 yards was pretty impressive.
He showed good vision, found a seem and made his way for a solid return.
This Baldwin guy is pretty good. Baldwin also was the leading receiver during the game.
1. Charlie Whitehurst
5 of 5I feel like I’m the only person who feels like Whitehurst could carry the team.
Whitehurst did go 14-of-20 with 115 yards through the air and few nice scrambles.
Yes, I know Jackson is the starter, and that’s not likely to change.
I would like to see Whitehurst actually have a chance of starting.
It is still an open position though, so we’ll see.
