New York Rangers: Reaction to Sean Avery's Recent Arrest
New York Rangers winger Sean Avery is known as a pest on the ice throughout the National Hockey League. By getting in the face of players before, during and sometimes even after the game, Sean Avery knows how to push buttons. Unfortunately for him, pushing those buttons outside of the hockey arena landed him in some trouble.
Avery was arrested in the early morning hours of August 5th for battery of a Los Angeles Police officer. The incident took place at his Hollywood Hills home after police were called to a noise complaint. Avery shoved the officer in the doorway then slammed the door shut.

Avery has since been released on $20,000 bail, with a September 2nd court date for a misdemeanor charge.
The New York Rangers organization has since said they are away of the situation and plan to speak to Avery about it. Since the incident was a few weeks ago, hopefully they already have. But, as a fan and putting myself in the position of running a professional hockey team, that isn't enough.
Mistakes can happen, and people make them everyday. However, a situation like this, one that involves police and physical contact with an officer, should raise flags right off the bat.
As a player of an organization, in any sport, you have the responsibility of representing that team on and off the field of play. Sean Avery has been involved in numerous off-ice conflicts, so this isn't the first one. Therefore, this time he needs to learn his lesson.
As a Rangers fan, I understand what he brings to the ice. He is a fast winger that also brings a physical element to his style of play. However, I don't believe his antics are worth any of it.
What he does off the ice reflects what the Rangers are, and if they don't do anything about this particular incident, I firmly believe that it will not go over well with fans or the league as a whole.
Avery needs to realize he is an adult that represents a famous hockey team in New York City. If nothing is done here, he will continue his ways and one can assume that things will only get worse.
