WWE SummerSlam Results: Where Does CM Punk-John Cena Rivalry Stand Now?
When Triple H stood in the middle of the ring last night and said he was wrong and made a mistake about counting John Cena out and handing over the WWE Championship to CM Punk, you could not tell if the cerebral assassin was telling the truth or if it was a great poker face.
What he did say that held true was that when SummerSlam ended there would be one champion with a unified WWE Title. But you have to wonder if Triple H knew Kevin Nash—one of his friends—would come from the arena, power bomb the new champion and allow Alberto Del Rio to cash-in his MITB contract.

You have to admit it makes for great theater.
But lost in all of this is the momentum that was gained for six weeks in the Punk/Cena angle that cannot be duplicated or even attempted to feed off of right now. There would need to be another angle that has just as much push as the one that has been the topic of people outside the wrestling community as well to get over as something just as great.
Conspiracy theorists, and yes I am one of them, have their own feelings. But I think there is still room for the rivalry to grow if handled correctly.
Punk and Cena have a verbal joust that is comparable to Ric Flair and Roddy Piper without the drama or craziness. Yes, that is a compliment.
Now there is another angle. If Triple H is telling the truth and Nash, who claims he was sent a text message by his friend that told him to take out the winner of the title match, is telling the truth, then who is lying?
Also, since the Royal Princess (Stephanie McMahon) has been involved since Sunday night, can’t you see where this is going? Stephanie sent the text to Nash, asking him to take out Punk or Cena. Triple H may not have known about this. It is Stephanie doing Vince Mac’s work and getting even with Punk for taking the title out of Chicago.
And she did tell Punk that people always get what they deserve!
It puts a great spin on something new, but it also leaves behind something that was GREAT. The Punk/Nash angle is new, exciting and fresh. As JR said, there are more questions than answers.
Stephanie McMahon being in the middle of this makes so much sense and takes the attention away from Punk and Cena and makes Punk the hero with “attitude.”
It will also cause a marital rift between the two that could be played out (you know, "This is still my daddy’s company, so you better do as I say!").
Punk and Cena also work well together and for once in a good feud, it looks like Cena will sell for Punk more so than he has in other feuds.
It just works.
We have seen great rivalries over the years in the WWE, WCW, TNA, NWA and so on. You just don’t want it to end. Fans love it. It is so good it may be better than Rock/Austin, Triple H/Austin and Jericho/Michaels.
You get the picture.
If the rivalry ends, then look at it this way: There was a unified WWE champion for the first time anywhere. SummerSlam rocked to the point that all eight matches were some of the greatest matches you will see at a PPV event.
I think business will pick up (sorry JR). Punk will feud with Nash. Stephanie will impose her will and Cena will challenge Del Rio for the title now that he came to Rey Mysterio's aid.
Yes, the feud may have been put on hold, but things just got a little more interesting.
