UFC on Versus 5 Results: 4 Reasons Dan Hardy Should Be Cut

Tim McTiernanMay 31, 2018

Well, Dan Hardy lost again.

After a back-and-forth first two rounds of his fight against Chris Lytle, Hardy attempted to steal the third round by taking down Lytle.

That turned out to be a mistake, as Hardy was submitted within 20 seconds of taking down Lytle.

After his fourth straight loss, here is why Hardy should not get a fifth chance inside the Octagon.

He Has Lost Four in a Row

1 of 6

Dan Hardy has lost four fights in a row in the UFC.

Nowadays, nobody gets that many chances under Dana White.

He's only being kept around because he is popular in the UK.

It is a good business strategy, but if this was an American fighter, then he wouldn't have even gotten his fight against Lytle.

In fact...

Nobody Gets a Fourth Chance, Why Should He Get a Fifth

2 of 6

Nobody in the UFC gets a fourth chance after three losses.

Why should Hardy be so lucky as to get a fifth?

Simply put, just because Hardy is a British fighter does not mean that he deserves the chance to get another fight in the UFC without working his way back in.

He Has Not Been Close to a Win in Any of His Fights

Hardy's unanimous decision loss to GSP was 50-45. No real shame in that, but Hardy wasn't in the fight for a minute.

Hardy's knockout loss to Carlos Condit occurred in the first round, and Hardy wasn't looking that hot in that fight either.

Hardy's unanimous decision loss to Anthony Johnson was 30-27. Johnson hadn't fought in 16 months.

Hardy couldn't last 20 seconds on the ground with Chris Lytle, and I had the fight 20-18 going into the third round.

None of these were close.

Quality of Opposition

4 of 6

Hardy was fighting quality opposition throughout his streak. But the quality went down with every fight and he looked no better.

There is no shame in losing to GSP.

The loss to Condit doesn't look all that bad.

The loss to Johnson after 16 months off doesn't look that great, and Johnson has been a very inconsistent fighter.

Chris Lytle is one of my favorite fighters, but he was never more than a mid-level fighter who put on some of the most entertaining performances in UFC history.

The quality went down, but Hardy's performance didn't go up.

In the End...

It's already been announced that Hardy will not be cut.

It makes sense from a financial and international aspect, but you know some other guys out there are pretty pissed off that Hardy gets a fifth chance.
