WWE SummerSlam 2011 Report: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

Justin WatryJun 7, 2018

Honestly, I am not sure how to feel about this year's SummerSlam. I made no mistake about it—I was hyped up big for this event. REALLY big!

Sadly, what we got from WWE was a very "middle of the road" show. This month's pay-per-view came nowhere near Money in the Bank. Not just the main events, the entire show! Just an average show tonight, yet last month was amazing!

Enough about last month, let's jump into tonight's SummerSlam that just ended...

The Good

The two main events delivered. Christian and Orton put on a great match. I even got my Edge appearance I had been craving for weeks now. Good for Edge, and even better, he did not get physically involved, if he is not healthy enough to do so.

The World title is back on Randy, and I like it. More heels are lined up, and we can all move on from Christian. Good closure to the feud, with the RKO coming from the same way Orton won it months back on SmackDown. Perfect pay-off.

The WWE title match with Cena/Punk did not top MITB, but I did not expect it to. On its own merit, it was a great close to the show and opens a ton of new doors for the next few months.

The teases from Steph all night really set the tone that "something" memorable was going to occur in the main event. No complaints about her re-appearing from me.

Kudos to all involved here—what a Raw it is going to be tomorrow night! Rey supposedly gets his WWE title match and plenty of drama is sure to unfold.

The Bad

The first hour-and-a-half. The commercials. The in-ring promo to open the show. The Jimmy Hart cameo. The celebrities there. The musical performance. The matches.

Just not very good and you could tell even the crowd was about to give up on the show. Thankfully, Edge came out, and the two main events came through. Again, the "match order" for pay-per-views are very important.

Some do not realize that, but what matches go where can make or break a show, and we almost saw a disaster tonight because of that. Sorry, just didn't feel the undercard tonight.

The Ugly

My predictions! This is part of writing articles online for all the great wrestling fans around the world. Tonight was not my best night of picking winners and losers.

I have stated this many times, but I try to stay "realistic" and avoid "fantasy booking," and some just can't do that. I can.

Another thing some can't do is admit when they were wrong. I can. Not only was I wrong on many match endings, I was wrong about a lot of things about this year's SummerSlam.

I admit it. Can you?
