WWE SummerSlam 2011: 5 Potential Outcomes from Wrestling's Big Summer Event
Hello folks!
It’s been a while since I have written for Bleacher Report, so for those of you who are not aware of who I am, I am Daniel Massey and I am ready to get back into the mix with insightful articles and analysis of the WWE.
What better way to start this than just an hour before what is set to be the biggest pay-per-view of the year?
We have an Undisputed WWE Champion to crown, Christian vs. Orton V, and Mark Henry is looking to continue his rampage through the WWE roster.
But what of the outcomes of these events?
I am here to look at five possibilities the biggest Summerslam in years could potentially produce.
So sit back, relax and enjoy the read!
Sheamus Will Beat Mark Henry
1 of 6Sheamus has tried to get Mark Henry to face him for weeks now, whilst brandishing a chair which has kept Mark Henry at bay.
This has marked a big face turn for Sheamus who was facing extinction toward the end of 2010.
To hear the reaction he has been getting on SmackDown has been amazing and he truly is a brilliant face.
One potential outcome of tonight would be Sheamus finally putting a stop to the unrelenting force of Mark Henry. The WWE Universe and the WWE locker room are looking to Sheamus to prevent this behemoth from destroying all the talent WWE has to offer.
If he does, this will mark a big push in the career of Sheamus. But if he doesn’t manage to succeed in getting the job done, then it will be Mark Henry who will continue the biggest push of his career.
Either superstar winning will have a direct impact on SmackDown. If Sheamus is victorious, then I have to believe that he will be in line for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship, regardless of whether Orton or Christian wins.
However, if Mark Henry succeeds in destroying the Celtic Warrior, then it will result in another superstar building a feud with the World’s Strongest Man and possibly creating an opportunity for that superstar to either start, continue or reboot their careers.
A New Belt Will Be Made
2 of 6If a new belt isn’t made for the new undisputed champion then I don’t think one will ever be made.
They surely cannot pass up on this opportunity. Doing so would leave the belt looking like a relic from an era gone by, one that makes me cringe every time I see it, purely because it was made for John Cena.
Let’s have a normal-looking belt, WWE.
I’m not asking that WWE make a custom belt for the champion, but an entirely new design, one that will bring prestige back to the biggest title in the business. Because let’s face it, it looks cheap and tacky.
Rey Mysterio Will Lose
3 of 6Rey Mysterio does not stand a chance. I don’t care who wins—Cena, Punk, or even the slimmest chance that Del Rio wins from a briefcase cash in.
I don’t think Rey will win. It is a shame Rey will be facing the champion on Raw because it just seems like a waste of 20 minutes of air-time when the outcome is so predictable.
There is no way that WWE will allow the two hottest commodities in the industry at this time to become a cropper to Rey Mysterio—especially after only allowing him to hold the belt for less than an hour a few weeks ago.
I think that now he has won the WWE Championship and it is on his resume, I can safely say he will not be holding that belt again before his career is over.
Triple H Will Turn on Cena
4 of 6So, if you haven’t heard by now, Triple H has inserted himself into the WWE Undisputed title match.
He will be overseeing events.
If he wasn’t going to get involved in some way shape or form then there would be no point in him being there.
I have to believe the most likely scenario is Triple H turning on Cena and backing Punk.
Not only do I believe that this is the most likely development should The Game get involved, but it’s also what I would most like to see if he is going to influence the outcome of the match.
A turn on Cena would allow Punk to be champion, keeping the fans happy, and it would also allow Cena to remain in the title picture for the next few months.
The closer to WrestleMania it gets, with Cena not holding the belt, then the more exciting it will actually be when he does win it and the WrestleMania match with The Rock ends up being for the WWE title.
Triple H is also one of the best promo men in the game today, so that would create some quality television.
Keeping Punk on screen is also a must as he has made WWE more than bearable over the last two months.
End of the PG Era?
5 of 6Over the past month, ever since Triple H took over as the COO of the company, I have noticed an abundance of obscenities and violence that seem to suggest the WWE is going in a more risqué direction.
Before you comment and alert me to the fact that the WWE will be staying PG, hear me out.
The use of the word “ass”, “arse” and “bastard” was featured on recent broadcasts of both Raw and SmackDown with no consequence. This implies that the restrictions of the strict PG regime no longer apply when wrestlers are looking to get themselves over, or gain a little heat.
CM Punk is another reason I have included this point in the slideshow. In the contract signing and the promos he has made since his return, he has made it abundantly clear that he wishes to steer clear of the PG regime that has plagued the product for three years.
I have no doubt that CM Punk will be pushing the boundaries after Summerslam—especially if he becomes undisputed champion.
The final reason I think Summerslam could signal the end of the PG era is because of Triple H.
He is an Attitude era guy. You can just tell when he is cutting promos and interacting with other superstars that he is dying for them to have a bit more flare—an edge if you will.
I think/hope Summerslam will signal the end of the PG era, and brings about a new era in which superstars can express themselves as they would in real life.
Also, maybe a chair shot (blocked by a forearm) will be used in the Christian/Orton match.
Enjoy Summerslam!
6 of 6So what do you think will happen at the second biggest PPV of the year?
Do you agree with my points? Do you look upon them with disgust?
Either way, please leave a comment and I will do my absolute best to reply to every one of you.
Thanks for reading!
I’m a Dapper Dan man
