Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers and 3 Standout Players from Preseason Week 1

Adam SpencerJun 7, 2018

The Green Bay Packers lost their first game on the road to a repeat as Super Bowl champions.

Fortunately, that game was just a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

But in the 27-17 loss, there were plenty of reasons for Packers fans to be hopeful.

Several young players had strong performances and one star player looked really sharp during limited action.

Here are four standout players from Saturday night's game.

4. Josh Gordy, CB

1 of 4

Gordy, a 24-year-old cornerback from Central Michigan, had a pretty good game on Saturday night.

He intercepted a pass and added a sack in the losing effort.

The Packers already have three solid corners in Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams and Sam Shields, but Gordy could emerge as a good option for the fourth CB spot.

First though, he'll need to continue having strong performances this preseason.

3. Brandon Saine, RB

2 of 4

Saine was used a lot on Saturday night.

He had 10 carries for 35 yards in the running game.

That doesn't sound like a lot, but it was his first NFL action, so he's bound to improve.

He also showed that he can be a factor in the passing game, catching three passes for 19 yards.

If he can keep improving this preseason, he could develop into a good third-down running back this season.

2. Aaron Rodgers, QB

3 of 4

Rodgers didn't see much action in his first preseason game, but he made the most of the snaps he did take.

He attempted eight passes, completing six of them for 74 yards.

He also hooked up with Greg Jennings for a 21-yard touchdown pass.

All indications are that Rodgers will pick up right where he left off in 2011.

1. Randall Cobb, WR

4 of 4

Cobb, the Packers' second-round draft pick, looked really sharp on Saturday night.

He led the Packers with three catches for 60 yards.

He also added a 32-yard kickoff return.

If he can solidify the Green Bay return game, he will be an invaluable piece to the Packers Super Bowl repeat campaign.
