10 Wrestlers Who Would Fit in the Four Horsemen Today

David LevinMay 31, 2018

As Ric Flair so eloquently said (yes, I am quoting a wrestler for pearls of wisdom), "Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going. Wooooo!"

Flair and his cast of villains (sometimes they were faces) became the most successful stable in all of wrestling. Seven men were honored enough to call themselves Horsemen (Flair, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson, Barry Windham, Lex Luger and Sting), eight, if you include J.J. Dillon. And in that time, they fought off the best competition the NWA/WCW had to offer.

They were badass, no matter what mail I will receive about the NWO being better or the Hart Foundation was the group of the '80s.

The Four Horsemen set the groundwork for what we saw and see today. They were all "limousine ridin', jet flyin', kiss stealin', wheelin' dealin' sons of a guns."

If there was a group like the Four Horsemen today, and there have been some likenesses to it (Evolution), which wrestlers would fit the mold? This is not a group that includes Flair or any of the old members.

Here is my take on who could make the cut.

Triple H

1 of 11

If he were wrestling in the 1980s, he would have been perfect as the leader of the band.

Strong, dominant, good on the mic. And a world champion.

It took the WWE to make him a star. It would have been interesting if he had received a push in WCW and seen what he could do.

He would a perfect choice.

Christian

2 of 11

He is arrogant, the consummate "me" guy and can turn "face" or "heel" in a minute.

Christian is the man who has the title but does not have an island.

The Horsemen give him a chance to prove what we know all along. He may need friends to retain his title from time to time.

The Horsemen were famous for that.

Bobby Roode

3 of 11

He oozes Arn Anderson.

Tough, rugged and a great mic skill.

Anderson is considered the best ever to never win the world title.

Will the same fate be bestowed upon Roode?

Forget the talk about him being in TNA and not WWE, Roode is a star.

Shelton Benjamin

He should have gotten a better push in WWE.

Benjamin is a great competitor and wrestler. Great amateur credentials. He can wrestle as a singles competitor or in tag team (maybe with Bobby Roode).

Benjamin can be a world champion in any promotion. He just needed the right push.

Austin Aries

The more I see him on camera, the more I like him.

Confident, arrogant and does exactly what he says he will do.

At 5'9" and 209 pounds, he is a bit small, but the pit bull in him makes him a great choice to fill the Tully Blanchard role in the group.

Alex Riley

6 of 11

The raw breed of wrestler the group can bring along and teach him to really become a champion.

Riley is now in Dolph Ziggler's Koolaid, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the chance at stardom and a title.

Like Lex Luger before him, and there is no comparisons, Flair taught the golden one how to wrestle, party and make money.

The group can do the same thing with this kid.

Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase

7 of 11

There is irony in this pick.

Rhodes, the son of Dusty Rhodes, should be enemy No. 1. But this makes sense.

Rhodes has the persona, mic skills and look of a champion and fits in well with a group of upstarts.

DiBiase needs a push. He also needs an identity. Maybe a spot in a stable (like Legacy) would help him resurrect his career.

Matt Morgan

8 of 11

This selection does a few things.

First, it shows the WWE missed on him.

Second, Morgan fills the Barry Windham role in the group. He is big, strong and powerful, and this group needs a machine to act in the Luger, Windham, Batista role.

Third, he has a look that needs to be tweaked a bit.

A great fit.

Kazarian

9 of 11

X-Division guy who fits many roles in the stable and is a solid wrestler.

Kazarian is a middle guy to have, much like a Tully Blanchard or a Chris Benoit.

He will hold many titles but will never challenge for the world title.

A J Styles

10 of 11

He has won everything there is to win in TNA, much like Ric Flair in the NWA on his way to the world title.

He can talk, can fly and can mat wrestle.

He has a great look and is the competitor in line with the Horsemen persona.

He is automatic.

Miss Tessmacher

With every great wrestling stable, you must have a manager.

Need I say more?

Looks, smarts and someone who can mix it up with the other wrestlers.

And if all else fails, she can certainly help opponents lose their concentration.
