Arsenal Transfer News: Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka on Arsene Wenger's Radar
After their opening-round draw against Newcastle at St James, it seems as Arsene Wenger has decided that perhaps the Gunners need some new faces to help get things going this Premier League campaign.
According to Goal.com, Wenger has established that he needs to strengthen the defence at Arsenal and plans to do so by signing either Gary Cahill or Phil Jagielka, or both. After his great performance away to Queens Park Rangers, Gary Cahill is top of the list. Chief scout Steve Rowley is to further investigate about the possible signature of the player. Arsenal are reportedly tabling a £16.5 million for the Bolton defender.

Whether Bolton are willing to let go of their man is another question all together. After their win over QPR, manager Owen Coyle said, "Gary is good enough to play for anybody. He has the feet of a centre-forward as well as his ability to defend." He went on to say, “It was a wonderful goal. We got the platform then to express ourselves.”
His stunning strike against the newly promoted side will be one that will be seen across highlight reels everywhere.
Although Jagielka's opening match with Everton was canceled, the ever-reliable hard man will surely be a great addition to an inexperienced Arsenal squad. However, Everton have already rejected a £12 million bid for their man, and anything within that region would once again be rejected by the Toffees. He would be considered a second option if it came down to the signing of either Cahill or Jagielka.
Neither would replace the talent of Fabregas and Nasri; however, they would be steps in the right direction for Arsenal, who are playing with a somewhat depleted squad at the moment.
