TNA, It's Time to Get Hulk Hogan off of the Television Screen

Anthony PetronzioJun 7, 2018

Before I start off, let me acknowledge that this is not a hate article. I'm a huge TNA fan, and Impact Wrestling has brought viewers a great product recently, in my opinion. The X-Division is getting a major push, which is good. The BFG series has gotten my complete attention (which is also good), and I'm additionally loving the younger talent that TNA keeps pushing, like Crimson and Gunner.

However, Impact does have its flaws. The one that most annoys me, and several other Impact fans, is the amount of TV time that Hulk Hogan gets.

Some people don't know when to ride off into the sunset, and Hogan is one of them.

Note: I don't want Hogan completely out of the company. He would be a great mentor to young wrestlers, and his common trips to big media outlets provide good exposure for the company. I just want him to be off of Impact, or at least spend less time on the show.

Very often, Immortal opens up the show and gives Hogan an opportunity to cut a promo. These drag out way too long, sometimes beyond fifteen minutes. The longer Hogan is talking, the less attention I'm paying. If wrestling matters, why is he talking so much?

Most of Hogan's TV time is devoted to his feud with Sting, and building up their inevitable match with the company in the balance. This, to me, is the most obvious point to Hogan not belonging on television:

He's too old now to wrestle.

Every week on Impact when he "beats down" Sting, but it looks like such a struggle. Last year when he had his match versus Ric Flair and AJ Styles, he didn't look too good, and that was before yet another back surgery. As a wrestling fan, I fear for Hogan doing permanent damage to his back by wrestling again.

Now, the Kurt Angle/Jeff Jarrett/Karen Jarrett/Dixie Carter/Hogan/Sting feud will give him even more time on Impact, whether the fans like it or not.

It's way too early in this angle to label it a disaster—and I have to admit, I find Kurt Angle's part in this intriguing (especially with his Olympic training coming up)—however, every time Hogan does a promo during the feud, or argues and attacks Sting, it takes away time that could be used for wrestling, the thing that should matter most to TNA.

I guess all Impact fans will have to wait until after Hogan-Sting to see if Hogan stays on Impact.

Let's hope it's a good match for all the time waiting.
